O/T For my pals re: husband's lymphoma UPDATE

Postby Bev G » Wed Aug 13, 2014 1:08 pm

Copied from my FB:

!00 days post stem cell transplant is the most critical time point in the whole procedure. Steve reached that milestone this week and had his follow-up PET/CT yesterday. We just returned from his doc appointment at Dartmouth. The PET/CT was all clear for cancer. the next scan will be in 6 months, but in the meantime most of the immunosuppressed restrictions have been lifted. He is back to about 50% functional. The doc expects to release him to return to work (where??!??) in October! He has a 40-60% recurrence risk over the next 2 years, but our doc (in Pittsburgh) "certified" that he would pass in 6-12 months last September, so wow! Just WOW!
My scan is tomorrow. My cancer marker has been up for 6 months, so fervently hoping the bastard isn't back this close to my five year mark. It is what it is though, huh? I had a 6% chance of making it to 5 years (this December) when I was diagnosed, so whatever it is, I've gotten a lot of unexpected time.

Thank you, my friends here, for your wonderful and unwavering support as I have slogged with Steve through his lymphoma diagnosis and treatment.

Love you all,

Bev

So glad to hear the good news! And your scan will be great. Take solace in the fact that 5 year survival rates are actually more like 40-60% if you have stage IV with resectable liver mets. Surgery is truly the hope for cure with this beast, and you've done so well.
