Hi Dianne,
Just FYI, we may eventually move some posts here because the "In Memoriam" topics (threads) have been used for the past three years, more as a kind of a memorial wall.....where we can all come to to find out where to honour those we have lost....not as a general discussion topic.
SBL, Ivona, Raygirl and I have kind of kept the "theme" of a memorial wall going, so we could let everyone know exactly WHERE they may find a particular topic for a particular person. It was felt that each person needed their own place where folks could remember them and share their feelings. One big thread would just be overwhelmed with too many posts for, and from, everyone all at once.
Your idea of a sticky has certainly been discussed "officially" and unofficially since the fall of 2008, with folks such as Gaelen, justsing, bradyr only to name a few...weighing in, and was actually started by our friend klryder02 who herself, passed away in 2009.
The result was : the "Memoriam" topic should just float and be updated when a new notification was made. The Individual tribute/memorial topics would be allowed to move down the posting pages when they were no longer being updated...BUT.. the Memoriam topic would always be bumped up if a new entry was made...ergo..would stay current when it needed to be. The concern from many members was that having a "Memoriam' topic ..always...at the top of the front page could be unnecessarily disheartening to newcomers seeking information and support for a very new and scary journey. It is true some of us will die from CRC. Would any of us want to have that thrown in our face the first time we sought solace on a Colon Cancer (Colorectal Cancer) Education & Support forum ???
The ongoing consensus has been, generally "No." So the "In Memoriam" topic floats until updated. The individual tribute topics are always accessible.
Please continue to help us out here if you wish to update the "In Memoriam" topics, or post a tribute topic to someone we have lost. We will try to keep the "In Memoriam" topic as current as possible, but for now...it would be preferable if the more experienced members here seek it out, rather than having it front and center. JMO. Not an official forum policy. Comments welcomed.
If it is something which is important to you, personally, as it is to many of us...PLEASE let us know of any information which needs updating or just make the posting yourself into the "In Memoriam" topic.
