Bleeding after bowel resection.

Postby Pat49 » Wed Dec 05, 2012 12:31 pm

Hi everyone,
I am in hospital at the moment having had my bowel resection. My bowel seems very lazy and after nearly three days of eating reasonably normally, the surgeon told the nurse to give me 2 glycerine suppositories. She did this, and about an hour later I went to the loo, but it was all over in about 10 seconds. To my horror there was a lot of bright scarlet blood in the pan, and (forgive me) when I wiped myself it was just blood. I told the nurse and she said well we'll wait til you go again. She did speak to the resident doctor who said she wasn't too worried. Fortunately my surgeon will pop in again to tomorrow so I will be able to tell him, but I was just wondering if you could put my mind to rest in the meantime. This is the trouble, there is too much time to think in here. Has anyone else had a similar experience. I would be so grateful if you would let me know. Apart from that all my obs. are very good, and I have been feeling ok.
Thank you for your help.
Pat.

Yes, I had also had bleeding for awhile after the resection, again during radiation, and a little during chemo. Sounds like you're in good hands though. All the best to you and your recovery from surgery. Hope you can break out of the hospital soon. AMy

Sounds ok. I had quite a bit of bleeding. I was totally freaked out but my dr said it was normal. Just continue to monitor and of course as questions if you are concerned.
