Hey all! We thought we'd celebrate Cyber Monday by rolling out the 2014 Colondar application! If you were diagnosed with colorectal cancer under the age of 50 -- or if you know someone who was -- use the following link to complete the application.

Jean that is a good question and I see you are new to the Forum, so welcome!

I am not sure how much you have read of how The Colon Club got started, but the answer to your question is the reason why the Colon Club was started to bring awareness to Colorectal Cancer and mostly that people under 50 can and DO get it. The Us Government says you should be 50 when you get your colonoscopy, and actually that is much to late for many of us here! So the Primary purpose of the Colondar is to tell the stories of people that were under 50! Please read the story of the how the Colondar got started and The Colon Club story, the stories are spread out on the website.

Now having said all of that, by no means is this a forum only for people under 50, although a great deal of us are under 50, there are lots over 50 too.

I appreciate your quick response and I appreciate the mission. I know that both my children will be having colonscopies well before 50. Incredibly worthy mission that you good folks have taken on and I thank you.

To my knowledge, there is an annual meeting of all participants in the US, where the actual photoshoot is done.
Those in charge of the Colondar project will have the exact information for you but have already provided this information on the same page :

My wife is on her 10th treatment of folfox. Diagnosed at age. Of 29. I guess my question is do u halt to have a scar ? She has no surgeries as of yet just hoping for some!

The shoot is in June, so surgery can't obviously be around them and due to the remoteness of shoot AKA not much medical help, I still think the rule is NOT to still be in active treatment. I hope that answers your question. And I do not think I have ever seen a model without a scar, in fact part of the application process is to take a picture of your stomach to submit.

I did notice in the 2013 Colondar that 4 of the models do not show their scars in their pics; not sure why. Scars or not, the 2013 is a work of art - as always.

As for being in treatment, I was in treatment when I did the photo shoot for the 2012 Colondar (chemo). That said, I had a pretty good idea of how I delt with my treatment - and felt secure in being several hours drive from the closest medical facility. Looking back I probably arranged to take a short chemo break during that time. Liz brings up a good point - the photo shoot is in upstate NY in the middle of nowhere - so if you have ANY concern about what your medical situation may be (photo shoot is a 4 day weekend in June usually); it would be best to wait to apply in a year that you are in a stable place medically.

I submitted my application without a picture of my scar. I just had surgery on Dec 10th and wanted to get my app in before that. My scar is just about ready for a picture, so if they still need one I told them that I can submit it afterwards.

I am very up in the air about doing this. It's been just over 3 years since my DX and I am always looking for more ways to make people aware of this disease and aware of Lynch Syndrome. Just not sure I'm right for it.
