If you want to use the word, fine. To each his own. I personally don't think that it is right or wrong to use the word - know what your expectations are, set a goal for yourself when to 'use' it and be fine with that.

For me, I'm CURED when I die of something else.

It's crazy to me that this is even a topic...this forum "should" be a place where all can express their feelings and by all means scream as loud as you can that you are cured...I know that I will when it's my time!

I am all about positivity as you may know from some of my other posts. I may have stage 4 cancer but Joe Schmo can get run over by a greyhound bus tomorrow so why live my days with any negative thoughts. If there is one gift I have gotten from cancer, it is to drop the drama, keep a smile on my face, thank God for each and every day I wake up, hold my loved ones closer, don't carry more in my burden basket than what will fit and above all STAY POSITIVE!

Works for me and if others would hop on the happy bus with us, the world would be a much happier place. I am not going to apologize if this offends anyone, that is their problem in my mind and I don't have any room for it in my basket!!

Thank you all for your support. It means the world to me. I shouldn't be ashamed to say I'm cured. I shouldn't feel ashamed to celebrate.

I cannot believe that I offer people false hope. Have you seen the statistics? And when you read this board, you hear a lot about what people have gone through, the horrendous side effects. You don't hear a lot from us, not much going on with us chemo types. Got cured from Stage IV types. We don't have much information to offer, because we didn't have many issues, so we don't come on boards. So I just let people know what happened to me, even though the majority on this board have had a lot of other issues. So no, I cannot imagine, in the least, that I am giving false hope. I encourage people to listen and see their doctors and to follow medical advice, not the advice of non-medical people on the board, no matter how medical they may sound.

So, sometimes, it makes me think people are just mean.

To paraphrase the lyrics from Taylor Swift. (I apologize for some of the mean words used against people who are mean, but I'm not creative enough to totally rewrite the song, but I hope you take if for the intent it was meant, stop being mean to me, just because I want to celebrate my curedness (and I don't care if that's not a word)..

You, with your words like knives
And swords and weapons that you use against me
You have knocked me off my feet again
Got me feeling like I'm nothing
You, with your voice like nails on a chalkboard
Calling me out when I'm wounded
You picking on the weaker man

You can take me down with just one single blow
But you don't know, what you don't know...

Someday I'll be living in a big ol' city
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?

You, with your switching sides
And your wildfire lies and your humiliation
You have pointed out my flaws again
As if I don't already see them
I walk with my head down
Trying to block you out 'cause I'll never impress you
I just wanna feel okay again

I bet you got pushed around
Somebody made you cold
But the cycle ends right now
'Cause you can't lead me down that road
And you don't know, what you don't know...

Someday I'll be living in a big ol' city
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?

And I can see you years from now in a bar
Talking over a football game
With that same big loud opinion
But nobody's listening
Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things
Drunk and grumbling on about how I can't be cured.
But all you are is mean

All you are is mean
And a liar, and pathetic, and alone in life
And mean, and mean, and mean, and mean

Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so?..

Someday I'll be living in a big ol' city (Why you gotta be so?..)
And all you're ever gonna be is mean (Why you gotta be so?..)
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me (Why you gotta be so?..)
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?

Ahhhhh, I feel much better reading this thread. Been hearing a song on the radio a lot lately and the lyrics are now going through my head, which pretty much sum up how I been feelin' the past few days . . . "I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose . . . fire away, fire away. Ricochet, you take your aim . . . fire away, fire away. You shoot me down, but I won't fall, I am titanium!

I don't see how you could possibly give false hope? Even if you look at the stats from older years, there is a 12% survival rate for stage IV CRC that do not die from cancer, but die from something else. Someone has to be in those stats and I am glad you are well on your way! (I don't want you to die of something else anytime soon just to prove it though!)

While I am a realist and do think I will most likely die from CRC one day, that doesn't mean I don't have hope for a different outcome. I wouldn't say I'm cured right now - I had active disease just 6 months ago, and my CEA is elevated now. But that doesn't mean I'll tell someone else who is 5+ years NED that they aren't cured. Sure there is always a tiny chance of a recurrance once you've been stage IV, but at your point there is more chance of cure than recurrance! Personally I don't know if I'll be comfortable with saying cured until ten years out, but maybe I would be at five - the chances are pretty good once you hit 5 years in a row with no cancer.

For anyone who has had many years NED and feels cured, I have no issue at all with them saying they are cured, and I will celebrate with them that they feel this way!

Woo Hoo!!! Even by the 90's standards I can say I am officially cured!!!

So I'm bumping this up - because someone pointed it out to me, reminding me the grief I used to take by some people on this forum. And that by their standards, I can say I'm cured!!! And I coulda said it by their standards - 6 years ago!!!

I'm jumping up and down for JOY!!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Well said!! I use CURED as well, no reservations. There are some on this board that dwell in the negative and love pointing out people’s slightest errors in their posts. Judgmental types like that make it hard to come on the board sometimes. Keep posting, you were one of those who helped me get through this, THANK YOU!!

For those who choose, stand up, and change your signature to cure.... and I don't mean that in a bullying sort of way... :D

Apologies for bumping up a very old post, but this entired thread piqued my curiosity.

I for one have no issue with the word "cured".

I wanted to ask you a couple of questions, can you point me to the threads that describe what you did to get cured (I presume you must have done a lot in terms of self care)

Also , just out of curiosity, what was what that top doctor did for the fellow clubber´s mother? Was it Inmunotherapy? A change in chemo regime?

For what´s worth: Man, for sure you can write, if I was half as good at my job as you are with words I´d be a millionaire by now. ( a millionaire with cancer, but still :D...)
