O/T- what's up with the weather?????

Postby weisssoccermom » Sat Mar 17, 2012 9:46 am

Ok, so I just got up (7:30am on a Saturday morning), the house is quiet, fire is going and the family room is nice and cozy warm. Look outside - it's SNOWING! WTF???? Snowing on St. Patrick's Day???
I'm getting sick of this....cold cold temps, first heavy rain & now snow. I'm supposed to go to Seattle tonight and watch the Sounders play Toronto in the season opener for Seattle. Dang, it's bad enough it's only supposed to be around 38 - 40 degrees tonight but seriously, am I going to watch the game being played in the snow?????

Let see, there are tornados in the midwest (way way too early for that), summer like temps in the east coast, my daughter in Denver tells me it's warm and sunny there.....why are we having SNOW????? Last night on the local news they were talking about the ski resorts in the Cascades - Mt. Baker had a base of 280+ inches - a BASE not the summit. Other resorts aren't far off from totals like those either. There will be skiing again well into June and maybe even July like last year. If it's snowing down here in the Puget Sound area - it certainly is snowing up in the mountains again today - heck it seems as though every night on the news you hear that the mts are getting another foot of snow! Baker got 110 inches in 6 days!

I'm not greedy - I don't have to have temps in the 70's or 80's. I'll be happy with temps in the 50's!! It doesn't even have to be sunny - I'll be happy with PNW rain! The poor little birdies don't know what to make of all of this. The robins are trying to find worms - trying that is when the grass isn't covered with snow. We had a few warm days a while back and now some of the flowers are starting to pop up - they'll be toast this year if this weather keeps up!

I'm going back to bed. This is ridiculous!

Oh Fletch, I'd LOVE to open some windows, but I'd freeze! Almost 9AM and still snowing. Thankfully it had rained before this started so the snow isn't sticking to the roads. Grass, trees, rooftops, etc. are all white. Pretty but not for March. Send some of that warmth this way, PLEASE!!!!!

Jaynee, welcome to our normal March weather. This year we've been in the 70-80 area, golf courses open, ski areas closed, and the grass turning green. I have had my old car (my avatar) out a few times, and yesterday had the top down. Next week it is supposed to cool down into the 50's. The weather has been strange.

I feel your pain Jaynee - though we haven't had any snow today. We did have it Tuesday though and of course the kids had late start for school. And of course, I had chemo that morning. Thank heavens for my network of friends so I could drop off the kids at their friends homes and the Mom's got them off to school (2 kids - 2 start times!).

I'm frustrated because the last 2 summers here have been way too short, wet and cool! I need some SUN and WARM WEATHER for my garden this year!!!!!

No different here in australia,we are still looking for the tap Fletch left running. We have had another 15 inches of rain since you left. Last night a cat4 cyclone crossed the west coast up near the kimberlies. The murray darling system, our biggest river has been in flood for two months, every day the flood peak reaches a new town on the river. They forecast a few showers for my area yeterday ,instead we got a deluge and once again I had to bail out my unit. Last November they announced that La nina was finished and we were heading back to el nino. Right, even the ducks are wearing floaties. Ron.

Jaynee,
Weird weather, I had a call from a friend in my hometown in Northern Minnesota and she was outside enjoying the 60 degree weather and here in Tucson AZ they are predicting a drop from 80 degrees to snow during the next two days. I had to finish all those Spring Seasonal duties like trimming and watering before covering the plants tonight.

I live in the dusty, dry central valley of Calif, we had less than a quarter of our usual rainfall (11 inches) until last week and then it started raining and the temperature dropped 20 degrees. It has been raining almost non-stop for a week, I was planning on planting my Spring garden---wtf

Snowing here this morning. :-)

I went to a really good class about arctic ice flows and it was interesting. In a lay persons summary and very, very abbreviated - with the warming trends in the Arctic Ocean, the water currents are affected and thus the weather patterns are also affected (because there is a loop in each of the Pacific Ocean and in the Atlantic Ocean that impact weather patterns from what I gathered). The end result is that in the US, the Northwest will be cooler and wetter while much of the rest of the country will be warmer and drier.

The crazy weather is my only source of entertainment at work. I sit at my desk and watch the incredible, short-lived changes that roll through. Torential rain, hail, sun, horizontal rain, horizontal snow, sun, snow, drizzle. All in a matter of 2 or 3 hours. It's crazy, but kind of awesome.

Yesterday a 10 minute hailstorm. Sunny afternoon for my grandson's outdoor B-day bash and dog walk.
So I am just now sitting at the computer: ten minutes ago was slightly grey and cloudy, but sun on the horizon.
5 minutes ago the sky darkened with a very few drops of rain.
Now 50 % whiteout conditions with 45 degree angle snow...ground completely white.

Thank you to you more southerly I-Fivers for the heads up and passing this meteorological maelstrom along north of 49 !!!

Cheers all

Dang CRguy, does that mean more snow today?? You know, I'm really getting sick of all of this.
Was worried about the weather during the Sounders game on Saturday but not one drop of rain/snow during the game. Started in afterwards but who cares then????

Yesterday, snow, sun, snow, sun......all day long. Saw the weather report last night. Just north of Seattle - 2 inches on the ground and still snowing!

Supposedly (and I use that term very lightly!!) we're supposed to be sunny and sort of warm (50's) on Friday/Sat/Sun. We'll see.....

But hey, spring starts tonight, right??? I'd just be happy with the white stuff to stay in the mountains!!

It's gotten unduly warm here and we really didn't have much of a winter. We usually get two or three snows. We only got one, if you could call it that, about an eighth of an inch. No mosquitoes killed or the other icky bugs that I hate about summer. I sure hope I'm able to keep my sunny disposition when all this hot weather rolls in. 8)
