Bad gas ? Is it the chemo ? It's terrible !!!

Postby Jimswife » Thu Mar 15, 2012 6:29 pm

Hi all , just thought I'd ask seeing as nothing is to embarrassing to ask here .....it's my husband .... He's gas stinks and I mean stinks ..... It's really bad , it like a bad lingering smell that seems to drift through the house .... Talk about a turn off !!! He says he can't help it , the surgeon says nothing to do with his op / Tumor but he's mentioned to onc and he said some people complain about it from the chemo ? Anyone else had this ? It's absolutely awful !!!

Yup, the effects are intense sometimes! Think irinotecan was actually worse for my husband than oxaliplatin but neither was good! That's why I loved the idea of Beth's odor-removing toilet!

Oh god it's terrible , it's worse at night in bed as its a confined space with the door closed , I'm having to get up and go sleep in single bed with my 6 year old , and in the day I'm having to follow him round with air freshner spray which of course only masks the smell, thank god he only 3 more chemo sessions left , I know he can't help it but it's just horrible !!!

Yep that' chemo gas!!! When I was going through chemo, a friend and I were joking about "chemo gas". It's "thick", it's "deadly", and it "doesn't move"

I agree that Irinotecan is the worst; we shouldn't be alloed in public.

Scented candles work.
Not the little plug-in thingies, actual flame.
Not so much their scent, but the flame actually burns the gas (it's mostly methane); as gas near the flame is consumed, the gas in the rest of that room migrates toward the flame and is eventually burned.

I''m generally quite frugal, but I spring for Fabreeze because it's so effective.

Agreed, nighttime is the worst! You can't get away! I spent a lot of time with my nose buried in my pillow. Happy to say now that my husband is on only Erbitux, the aroma is gone. Thank goodness!

Does he have an ostomy? If he does, that smells differently than normal poo and yucko. Yes, I have had different smelling gas (almost as bad as the dog) from chemo also. Get some beano, it should help, or GasX.

When i first had m ileostomy reversed i had finished chemo and the gas caused me huge distress. I was definitely gas incontinent, couldnt hold it in and it was truly foul. My digestion ws definitely off. As i said, i wasnt gaving chemo, surgery itself can certainly cause it. At nine months out its a lot better

Yep, it is definitely chemo gas. Having been on chemo for a couple of years now, I am afraid to go to parties because if I eat delectable little snacks and sandwiches I poot and I can scatter a crowd faster than gun fire. Also sleeping in the same bed with someone is just terrible I find myself apologizing at 2 a.m. for driving out my partner, the dogs and probably anything lurking.
