Not to aggravate an already tense thread, but there's a lot of bogus maple syrup out there. Chemically, it's nearly identical to pure cane sugar, and I know that some unscrupulous and perhaps ignorant people sell jars of "maple syrup" that are merely cane sugar with some maple flavor mixed in. It's not an industry that's regulated like other foods would be, given the nature of how and where it's generally produced.
Speaking of laetrile, you could buy it in the form of "laetrile loaf" when I was a student at the University of Wisconsin in Madison back in the late '70s. The guy who sold it was in and out of jail, but at times you could walk right into his store and buy the stuff. I believe it was sourced out of Mexico.
