Question for caregivers please extreme fatigue

Postby Jimswife » Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:07 am

Hi
Just wondering if any of you caregiver experienced extreme tiredness ?? In finding myself sleeping all night 10-12 hours and still being tierd all day , really tierd , I dropped my son of at school at 9am this morning and went back to bed and only just woke up now at 2pm , this is after a full nights sleep ?? It's gone on for about 3 weeks or so now , don't know if it's maybe the stress of the last 4 months creeping up on me or someone suggested low iron ? I've made a doctors appointment anyway to get checked over , it's just not like me , I've got Ivf coming up in the next couple of months and want to be in as good a shape as possible for that , these past few week you would think it was me with the illness and not my husband as he's doing great and is the picture of health , I'm just so extremely tierd all the Time .

I do know that extreme stress can have an effect on the body. I would have your Dr. check your blood counts just to be sure. You might not be eating to well. Good luck

Hi Victoria:

I would think that your fatigue could be explained by how exhausting it is to take care of someone all night and all day without stopping. I would more think it could have something to do with having some degree of depression, because, well, why wouldn't you? Life has thrown you an enormous curve ball. It is emotionally exhausting to wonder where things are going, how you'll get there, what will happen next, is there a fast ball coming, etc, etc. I'm glad you've made an appointment to see your doc. Please discuss all your symptoms with him/her, and see if getting on an anti-depressive and hooking up with a counselor just might make some sense. There is NO SHAME in that! It is, in fact, the emotionally healthy thing to do.

Best of everything to you, dear.

I'm eating well , our lifestyles have changed completely in the last 3 months , infact if anything I should be in tip top shape . Maybe I need some kind of vitamin / iron supplement ? I suppose the doctor will do various tests . I think stress probably does play a part too though .

Thanks Bev , I don't know what the problem is ? I don't feel poorly or anything I'm myself , like I said earlier with all the healthily eating / drinking / lifestyle changes I should be exactly the opposite .

I think you're totally stressed out and it's your body's way of dealing with the stress. I agree with Bev, talk to your doc and see if you might need an anti-depressant for a while.

It could be stress, and the change in diet (though for the better) could have knocked some things out of whack. I would definitely get your blood counts checked and see if you are maybe iron or vitamin d deficient. You need to take care of yourself, too!

I know , I can't get a doctors appointment for another week , in the meantime my sister has given me a multi vitamin with iron supplement. I'll see if that helps any . I look so rough too with the puffy dark circles under the eyes and the pasty drip white complextion , dosent help here in the uk that we never see / feel sunshine on our skin . Rain / cloud / cold / frost and wind is all we have to look foward to weather wise .... Roll on July when we go to Cyprus , we will all certainly be more than ready for a break and a bit of sunshine .

Try taking vitamin d too in the meantime.

Hi Jims Wife!!

I have experienced the same thing for the last 11 months after the diagnose of my wife's cancer. sleep for hours, still when i wake up, i am even more tired....sleeps a lot over the weekend ...I started getting worried and went to see my GP. she did many many tests which luckily all came clear. Started multivitamins, but still i am feeling the extreme fatigue. So I suppose its the same tension about the health of our loved ones.......
check with your GP and make sure everything is OK........

I used to feel like that at times. I truly believe mine was stress and worrying about the what if's too much. When I finally came to the realization that my worrying wasn't going to change anything and I let it all go, I suddenly started feeling better. I know that sounds overly simplified, but that was it in a nutshell. I finally said, Is worrying about this going to change whether or not my dh has a recurrence? Of course not, so I need to take care of myself (physically and emotionally) because my husband and kids need that from me. I am not saying that is what is going on with you, but that was my experience.

Thanks Jimswife. Yes, she is doing great. Just had yearly colonoscopy, CT and blood tests about a month ago, all came back normal.... She got her treatment in China.

She was staged 3B at the age of 25. 7/29 Nodes positive ( I am not 100 % SURE, as the path report says 3 cancerous nodes and 4 had metastasis!!! chinese translated to english!! so i guess 7 were positive).. She is from China and was diagnosed there. had to bear all the cost of operation and chemo as it is not free in China and she had no insurance there. we could have done it in Uk or Canada as she was insured here, But anyway I am glad that all went very well for us SO FAR.... we are blessed that we have two great families, and everyone was so supportive...
