Made it to my 31st wedding anniversary!

Postby Guinevere » Sat Nov 19, 2011 11:00 am

So thankful that today's my DH and my 31st wedding anniversary! This time last year, I was in considerable pain but wasn't aware that I had been misdiagnosed. We went shopping and then to Salt Grass for prime rib and the future looked so bright. A year later, we've weathered my heart attack, stage 4 colorectal cancer diagnosis, 4 surgeries, chemo and radiation and we're still standing! Yes, I have to use a cane now and then because the Xeloda makes my legs so shaky and weak but we're still here. I didn't think it was possible for my husband and I to get closer but this last year has brought us so much closer and made us so much stronger that I have high hopes for many, many years together! On to 32!

Congratulations to you both! I imagine there is a closeness this cancer experience brings to couples who stick it out together. Hope my husband and I get to 31 years of marriage together! That would be a great blessing.

Happy Anniversary to you and your husband Guinevere! (My husband and I also celebrated our 31st anniversary this year.) Yeah, there's nothing like a life threatening illness to make us put things in perspective and realize what's most important in life - our family, friends, and the relationships we have with them. Wow, you've been through so much in one year. I hope things only get better for you, and hope for many, many more years of life for you and your husband together.

With everything else on the board that's going on, this was a mood lifter for me. Last night, my husband and I were laughing that when we first got married, I wouldn't get let gas in front of him (I snuck off to the bathroom). Now? We've been through just about every kind of bowel problem you could imagine and God knows he's cleaned up just about any kind of bowel problem this last year.
I'm thankful for him...I can't even put into words what his love and support as always meant to me but never more so than this last year.

Congratulations! 31 years is quite the achievement! There aren't many positives in getting cancer, but drawing closer to our loved ones can be one good thing that comes from it. I'm glad that things have worked out that way for you and your husband. Ann
