blood and metal after resection! terrified.. please

Is it normal to have blood and see a peice of metal after a rectal resection???? my surgery was march 23... i was constipated and straining, and passed a small peice of feces, then mucous, then a staple and then quite a bit of blood.... is this normal? I have called the emergency line for my surgeon,, haven't heard yet- I am terrified...

I assume it was a staple... it was a small peice of metal, in the shape of an "8"....

This happened to my husband a few times and his surgeon said it was normal. Always good to check though...

I still haven't heard from my surgeon, but the bleeding has stopped, and I had a somewhat normal bowel movement with no blood. Thank you so much for posting.... you just gave me and my husband a breath to breathe! THANK U THANK U THANK U

No problem... My husband freaked out the first time it happened to him. I was too, on the inside, but telling him it was normal while I googled it. He called his surgeon to double check and he said all was normal. Eric also had black strings (sutures I guess) that came out months after his reversal surgery. Guess they just take a while to work themselves down and out of the system.
