Gradumacation Day

Postby SkiFletch » Wed Jun 16, 2010 3:53 pm

It's with some tears in my eyes that I can finally say I had my last infusion today . Had a lot of fun with my oncologist and the staff. I showed up wearing my graduation hat (whatever they call those square capped things) and robes cause I figured I might as well not dissapoint them and make the scene they know I'm capable of. Mom (breast cancer survivor treated there too) showed up and brought lunch for the entire staff and gave my onc a little personal gift as well. As usual they were so nice and appreciative. And when they brought the pump out, they all came out at the same time humming "Trumpet Voluntary" and carrying a diploma along with them, it was so cool. Big hugs from all and wishes that I'd never need to sit in one of those chairs again. Now we just pray that they're right.

Moving forward, Doc scheduled my PET for the 6th of July, HIPEC consult and then followup with my onc will both be on the 12th. He also finally took me off the injectible Fragmin, no more making my belly sore :D :D. So for the next few days when the side effects creep up, I can laugh at them, knowing they'll be over for the forseeable future. Counting down the hours till the pump comes off, about 11am Friday. I think Kelly and I may have a little tear session when she pulls that needle out and stuffs it in the sharps container.

And a shout goes out to all my chemo buddies out there. There's nothing mystical about me, and if I can get through it, so can you. Wishing eveyone out there goin through it strength and health :)

Dude, I remember your first post after your first infusion. Something along the lines of "This ain't so bad; what's all the fuss about?" Forgive me for observing that you got a little less cocky after each subsequent infusion. You soldiered it out and I know we're all proud of you and pleased that you're all done.

I really liked the people at my infusion center. We had a lot of fun. I sincerely hope that I never see any of them again, at least not on a professional basis.

That is great! The infusion nurses were so nice, but I told them if I ever saw them again, I'd be very depressed ;-)

Fletch, I had tears in my eyes as I read your post. Happy tears, but tears. This forum is destroying my street cred on not being sentimental  . I LOVE your positive attitude and you've been such a big help to me, I can't thank you or express how happy I am for you enough. Good on you, brother. So SO happy for you. A BIG hug and kiss to you and Kelly.

WOOHOO!!! Congrats!! It's gotta feel good that you're over and done with it tomorrow.

I'd love for my mom to bring our nurses lunch.

I ordered mini cupcakes for my chemo nurses and staff for next week since I'll be done as well with #12. YAY!! :P

I can't believe I went for six months, but so glad I stuck it out, too. Next weeks side effects will be nothing but a bad memory. LOL

Fletch, you're still a stud. Love and Hugs to you and Kelly.

We're proud of you too, Holly.

And no, I'm not lying about the memory quickly fading. Too much joy bouncing around in your brain pan; no room for memories of misery.
