I have a stoma, ileostomy, and when I received my initial in hospital care instructions they explained to me that I have two openings. THe main opening on the stoma and then when I lift my stoma up there is an opening that really is not part of the main stoma. I was told that it was part of the whole ileostomy.
Were you there when the when ostomy care instructions were given to your mom?! Was this explained?
And it would seem that there is feces coming out of the sides, but it is really isn't. So when you are fitting your wafer, you have to be sure the whole stoma and the base of the stoma has an opening on the wafer,if you do not then the wafer will not work right because of the feces coming out of the sides.
Be sure there are two people at the appointment with your mom, I know for me I always bring someone with me especially early on, answers get missed our misunderstood. Four ears are better then two.
Good Luck and let me know what you find out.
God Bless,
Blessings,
