Surgery on May 15th

Postby vancouver eve » Mon May 04, 2009 5:38 pm

I will have one of two Vat surgeries on May 15th. I am very anxious about the procedure, but it has to be done. How do others manage to cope with these procedures.

The surgeon has said he can get the small nodes out. That should make me happy, but still scared.

Hi Eve - I'll send you another email, but scary as it is, you'll find it relatively easy as surgery goes. Scary to go under and scary to contemplate surgery - that's always the case. Not a piece of cake the first couple of days, but I was off all pain meds 5 days after surgery, without anything resembling pain 8-9 days after surgery and digging in my yard 15 days after surgery. A little more tired than normal and incision near breast is still sensitive to touch, sort of sensitive sleeping on my operated side, but I'm essentially back to normal. I also did one hour of aerobics at 2 weeks post surgery and am getting back into regular exercise.

I'll send you another PM and will be thinking of you on 5/15. You'll be very glad these mets are gone!

Take care,
Betsy

I am so glad that the day you have been waiting for is finally almost here! You will get through this. I assume VATS means video assisted throacotomy? Anyway, I am sure it will be an easier recovery than I had w/ the open procedure. Best wishes to you. I'll be thinking of you cause it is the day before my birthday that you are having the surgery. Please give us an update when you feel good enough to.
All the luck in the world,

I haven't seen you for awhile Eve. I'm glad your getting your surgery. It's normal to be scared but most people I've talked to have said it's easier than the chemo. Your lucky you get to get yours out, I wish they'd take out mine.

I'll be praying for you.
