cea marker increase from 1.1 to 1.7 in 3 month please advise

an increase in CEA from 1.1 to 1.7 does it indicates cancer? afer an op 1.5 year back was 0.9 please advise.

no this increase could be a nominal change.

It could indicate that something is going on. Have you had a CT scan recently? If there is anything to be concerned about it would show up on the CT most likely.
I don't think that is a huge rise, but seeing as it has been increasing steadily I would get it checked out.
If you are still on chemo I wouldn't worry about it because that can cause the CEA to rise following surgery....You can read the other posts that people have written. For some people CEA does not mean much.
At least it is still w/in the "normal" range so if anything is going on it would be very small indeed.

CEA can flautuate for many reasons besides recurrance. I would not be too concerned about it because it is still a very low reading.

Talk to your doctor. There are lots of reasons for CEA to fluctuate that are not cause for alarm. If your doctor was concerned, s/he'd tell you. Also, have you ever had an elevated CEA? It's possible CEA is not even be a good marker for you. Everyone is different.

Many people have CEA levels that bounce around. If it keeps going up, then there is something to be concerned about. The hardest part is waiting for the next testing. Inflammation in the respiratory tract and/or the GI tract also make CEA levels rise. If your onc is not concerned, then try and relax. If you feel anxious about it, ask your onc to repeat the test approx one month from the last one. Much earlier than that and you wouldn't see much anyway.
