Dad's surgery update.....

Postby IssyP » Wed Oct 18, 2006 11:51 am

Thank goodness yesterday is over and done with.....the nerves were intense! Dad had his rectal surgery and the surgeon said it went really well.....it did take a bit longer as the site where the tumor was removed was very low so they took their time. When they were putting in the ileostomy the severed an artery but it has been repaired and now he is being watched for blood clots. We won't know about lymph nodes for about a week so we're still in prayer mode.

Dad was very groggy but alert.......he had the epidural which took alot of the edge off but he was in serious pain thanks to the gas/air they used to inflate his belly.......his nurse said he'd be up today to try to get some of that gas out. I can't believe they will have him up and about today! Amazing. Anyhow, we won't know anymore until the path report comes in. In the meantime, we just just want to get better, heal well and adapt to having the ileostomy for the next few months.

Thank you so much for the +ve feedback and encouragement from everyone here!

BTW, Jana, how long ago was your surgery and how was recovery?

God Bless!

Thats great news, it sounds identical to the surgery i had, very low down. If your dad gets great support from his family (which it sounds he is) then he will pick up in no time, there will be days obviously when he feels a little worse for wear, but he'll be fine.

God bless

Nick
