Prep Question…

Postby Deann » Sun Dec 04, 2022 11:57 pm

Hi
I am halfway (or more) through drinking the 64 oz of the Gatorade/Miralax prep but it seems more lengthy a process than I remember from four years ago.
If I recall correctly, one has to start the elimination process even before finishing the mixture …. So far, nothing’s happening (but that could change in a nanosecod). As I’ve been drinking this for 2 hours now, I would suppose that since it is 9 pm here now, I might expect to be in the bathroom for two, three, or four hours? I just can’t remember how long it was.
I know everyone’s different but I wondered if anybody could give me an expected time frame .. like maybe until 11 or midnight …. ?
THen I have a third dose to take at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow five hours prior to the procedure. The directions say ‘try to finish this in one hour’.
If anyone would like to suggest anything in particular or to suggest how many hours from this first 64 oz Miralax mixture how long … I guess I am wondering probably one doesn’t really get much in the way of sleep.
I appreciate your knowledge in this …. I am a year late for this checkup. Need to be checked ….. wondering about polyps or anything else. This is my third colonoscopy …. But I find it hard to recall the prep details between scopes.
Thanks if anyone has time …. Good wishes to all of you. D.

My DH had the same instructions. I’m not sure what the thought process is for keeping you up pooping through the night. His didn’t really start until about midnight. Good luck.

Thanks. The third dose I forgot to say is 32 oz and this one tonight is the 64 oz. Well … however long it takes, it’ll just have to take ….I’m also just surprised by how icky it is trying to drink this bit by bit. I thought it might be easier this time but it isn’t.

N morgen,
Thank you for responding and I just read your intro post - wow you’re dealing with so much.
But this forum has really wonderful helpful people that is for sure, and that’s on many levels.
Things just started up a bit for me.
I had 2 polyps last time and one was more suspicious so I’ve been a bit on edge wondering what the GI doc will find - and I hope that I do a really good prep here so that they can do a good exam. I almost canceled it b/c I was having a few days of GI stuff going on and finally felt OK enough to go ahead.
Best wishes to you and your husband with everything. D.

Thank you. I hope your colonoscopy goes well and your gi doesn’t find anything for you to worry about. I’m going to try and get a colonoscopy and endoscopy scheduled next year for myself. This will be my 3rd for both. Unfortunately this was my DH’s 1st colonoscopy and I was completely floored by the results.

Yes fortunately they lowered the screening age, right? To 45 now? Sounds like this was a total surprise then. Well things have been progressing (as it were) with prep results but maybe b/c I had so much GI stuff going on these past few days (going constantly) maybe there is less to ‘get rid of’ - who knows, I’ll just do my best here but it sure seems like things look almost clear right away (well, almost anyway) but I’ll do the entire regimen anyway. It sure is hard to drink every bit of this stuff though. Surely one can leave a bit of it, I would hope … especially with a 3rd morning dose to be done. Maybe there’s much much more to be done here, I’ll just have to see.
Best wishes on your own exams as well. I’ve never had an endoscopy though.
Thanks again to everyone here as the knowledge is amazing. People who need your knowledge can benefit so much. But it’s like a foreign language to me. Sure hope I don’t need tutorials after tomorrow…..

I mixed the dose for the 32 oz in the morning and put it in the fridge. I hope this will be OK - it is so far an easy prep except for the difficulty in downing the stuff/nauseated from that but it’s a bit worrying that things seem a bit ‘less’ and ‘easier’ than 4 years ago so I will just hope that everything gets clear as it is supposed to do.

Prep worked; scope done.

Postby Deann » Tue Dec 06, 2022 10:17 am

Hi, :D
I noticed on another thread there was something about suggestions to avoid polyps … I had never heard of that before. The prep worked fine and the doctor said one small polyp was removed. I’ll follow up after biopsy but am relieved nothing further was found. I’d been due for this exam a year ago.
This was funny - I asked about the cookie post-scope and they no longer have them given ‘due to covid restrictions’ - but they thankfully do continue to provide patients with the box of juice. I do not understand the logic of that …..

Wow! I’ve never been offered a cookie or juice. They just wake me up in recovery and tell me to leave, lol.

Also ten years ago when I had my first one, the surgery center provided their own ‘fuzzy socks’ for each patient to wear and then you take them home with you. The kinds with the sticky things on the bottom so you do not slide around. Well, they stopped doing that I do not know how long ago, but they weren’t there four years ago. You just keep your socks on. :).
Yeah things have changed to ‘the austerity program’ as one of my old bosses used to say. :)

I’ll have to ask my husband what his experience was like. I have never been offered anything and never knew that some places offered food or drink.
