Chemo response after 3 cycles

Postby Markdale » Sat Dec 26, 2020 12:03 am

Hello everyone,

I was to get a ct guided biopsy of a lung nodule that made me stage 4. When they did the prescan there was only a hollow space where the suspect nodule should have been. I have 3 other nodules that showed no change and the radiologist who is associate professor level suspects they are not metastasis. He said the possibilities are the chemo has done it’s job after 3 rounds or it was never a metastasis just something that has occurred after a lung infection. The radiologist said he will go over my other scans in greater detail and write up a report as the pet scan was done with low resolution ct.

Has anyone had experience or stories of chemo (folfoxiri) that has worked so fast?

Has anyone had a similiar situation? Has chemo worked so quickly for anyone?

Mark that’s great news; if any chemo was going to do it then it would be FOLFOXIRI. I suppose if the lesions were small then it’s always possible. I guess the big question is, what happens now... watch and wait? Attempt to biopsy (maybe too small)? Repeat PET (may also be too small)?

Whatever the recommendation, it could be a good opportunity to get a second opinion on the scans too.

Thank you, I will have to wait till I see have my next onc appointment. I’m hoping it was never a metastasis, if it was and the chemo destroyed it most likely means the other 3 are not metastasis because there has been no change.

This is the first bit of good news I got since they first found this during the colonoscopy.

Hi Mark,

In 2019, my husband had Folfori + Avastin for (among other things) numerous tiny lung lesions (up to 5mm but mostly 1-2mm). Most of them disappeared or shrank even more after a few cycles. His most recent scan (Dec 17) shows there are still several small nodules, up to 3mm in size, but they haven't changed in over a year so the onc thinks they're calcified/chemo killed them. Chemo is nasty stuff, but it can do the job, even with just a few cycles!

Thank you.

I was reading an article about a study into folfoxiri conducted in Vietnam. It was only a small study of unresectable colorectal cancer, it showed approx 5% had a complete response to folfoxiri.
