Stage 4 going to yearly surveillance!

Postby Gravelyguy » Tue Dec 15, 2020 9:59 pm

Hi Everyone,

Just got back from Mayo. Everything went great. I had my bloodwork, scans, and met with my oncologist all before 11.

My oncologist said my risk of recurrence went significantly down after the 3 year mark so I only need to go yearly now. Have to admit I am a little nervous of not having as tight a safety net but really happy about the news!

Take care all!

Congrats, that's great news. Sounds like your journey was similar to mine, and I also was treated primarily at Mayo. They really know how to handle cases like ours.

Hi Ehut,

Question for you. I see in his notes that he is planning to do yearly scans for two more years and then will be done. Is this how they handled your case?

Dave!

Awesome news!

I was on the lookout for an update from you since you and my mom are on similar schedules! She heads up to Mayo tomorrow for the bloodwork/scan/onc meeting all in one day—praying for happy results like yours!

So the scans jump to yearly at the 3 year mark (from surgery I assume)? I was wondering as we are soon approaching the 2 year mark in March.

Did you feel safe COVID-wise? I am sending her with an N95.

Hi Punky,

My oncologist bases everything off of end of treatment. I had 8 rounds of chemo after surgery so they are going by that date. It looks like your mom did all of her chemo up front so I would assume her date would be surgery. I was hoping for another 6 month round so that I could go to To Rochester in June instead of December but no luck!

We felt very safe. The nurse that checked me in for my CT said that with no international travel, they are seeing much fewer patients. I started at 6:30 with my bloodwork and CT at 7. So there were not many people about. Even waiting to see the oncologist at 10, there were maybe 10 of us in the waiting room.

Saying a prayer for your mom!

Question for you. I see in his notes that he is planning to do yearly scans for two more years and then will be done. Is this how they handled your case?

Dave

My last scan was at 6 years. Their oncology department suggested 5 years but my surgeon recommended 6 years so I went with that. I still get an annual exam from my local oncologist and CEA test. I had a colonoscopy this year and am now on a 5 year schedule for those.
