Rectal bleeding(Maybe a tear or hemorrhoid)

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Sun Nov 15, 2020 12:59 pm

I don't have hemorrhoid. I may have an anal fissure but it doesn't hurt the way it dd before. For a while now I have been having some rectal bleeding. With hemorrhoids it's just some red on the paper and I can feel the hemorrhoid. With a fissure it burns. I've been having more bleeding today and there was blood on top of the paper in the toilet, blood on the paper and blood floating in the water. It's bright red blood. Not the maroon colored blood I had with my tumor. I've been having more cramping lower abdominal pain lately and coupled with my extreme weight loss I am concerned. I will let my doctor know. I am having blood tests on the 27th.

Could it be your Ischemic Colitis? Especially when you say you are having more cramping. Isn't that one of symptom?

Yes do follow up with your doctor. I hope it is nothing serious & I especially hope it is not your Ischemic Colitis acting up. From some of your past bouts, it sounds painful.

Good luck,

Lee

It's different than ischemic colitis because that has more severe pain and the bleeding is usually bloody diarrhea. I haven't had diarrhea. Yes, ischemic colitis is horrible! I have to wait until Monday to let my family doctor know. I can mention it to my Gi's office but it's hard to get a hold of them. My family doctor's office only checks messages for cancellations if they are left after hours. My GI's office doesn't have voice mail. The weight loss is very extreme and I'm still losing and my hair is falling out. Thanks, Lee! :)

Thank you Koreysue! :) It could be an internal hemorrhoid that I can't feel. None of my doctors are doing appointments in person. They are doing phone appointments only due to covid.

SEE YOUR GI

I was passing blood clots a couple of months ago, and ended up in the hospital er in need of an overnight transfusion.

Hemoglobin had fallen to 8.

Whatever it is, I hope it’s minor and forgotten about this time next week.

I'm so very sorry that happened to you praying.*hugs* Due to covid all of my doctors are doing phone appointments only. I would only be able to see my GI if he did another colonoscopy. I could call his office and try to set up a telephone appointment with him. I would tell him about the weight loss and hair loss as well. I could keep an eye on the bleeding and call his office if it gets worse. Usually if I call for a telephone appointment it takes three or more days for the appointment. Thank you Praying. :)

Thank you Lee, Punky and beach sunrise! :) I hope so too. It wasn't a huge amount of blood. It just had me a little concerned because back at the beginning of 2014 I had blood dripping into the water that wouldn't stop for a few minutes. My doctor said hemorrhoid. Then in October of that year I had the horrible pain and more rectal bleeding except the blood was maroon colored instead of bright red. If it continues I will definitely talk to my doctor. It happened once in the past but this time there was more blood.

I called my Gi's office and his receptionist said he was in tomorrow and she would let him know. I mentioned the weight loss, hair loss, feeling full quickly, more cramping, and the rectal bleeding.

If you are worried about weight loss, you can calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) to see if it is in the danger zone.

In terms of weight, there is an underweight condition called "cachexia" which is also referred to as "wasting syndrome". You can check whether your weight is getting close to the cachexia boundary by calculating your body mass index (BMI).

BMI________Weight Category
Under 18.5 .Underweight
18.5- 24.9 ..Healthy Weight
25 - 29.9 ....Overweight
30 or over ..Obese

https://www.mdcalc.com/body-mass-index-bmi-body-surface-area-bsa

(Be sure to use the correct units for weight and height! Click on the green icon to change weight or height units if necessary.)

If the BMI falls below 18.5, then the weight is in the cachexia/wasting-syndrome zone, and it may be time to contact the doctor about this, because once the BMI drops too far under 18.5 it becomes very difficult for patients to re-gain weight.

Thank you for the information. The reason I am concerned about my weight loss is because when I look in the mirror I can easily see my rib cage front and back(I can count my ribs), I can see the bones in my back, and the bones in my shoulders. I have loose skin. I think I am continually losing weight. My family doctor told me not to lose any more weight. I read that when weight is lost too quickly it can result in hair loss due to malnutrition.

What do you expect your doctor to do when the receptionist lets him know that you called? You have mentioned 5 symptoms. Do you expect him to address all five symptoms without examining you?

On September 23, 2019, DarknessEmbraced wrote:I had a colonoscopy this morning which was clear. I'm glad it was normal but I wish I knew why my digestive symptoms have been so much worse this month...

Do you have the written report from your last colonoscopy? What does the report narrative say about the lining of your colon? Do you have any diverticulosis pockets? any ulcerative lesions? any diseased segments? any discolored segments? any hardened colon wall? any vascular problems (varicose veins, etc.)? any irregularities around the anastomosis suture site? any hemorrhoids? any tears or fissures?

Why do you mention "tear" or a "fissure"? What do you mean when you say that your colonoscopy was "clear"?
