Veggie burgers/hot dogs

Postby luckydragon » Thu Nov 12, 2020 12:17 pm

Hi. First time posting. Just wanted to thank everyone for sharing thru the forum. I’ve learned so much already and have accepted my new QOL.

I risked having an all beef hot dog last night and paid the price this morning. I’m afraid to have a burger but saw these “beyond meat” type veggie patties for sale at the supermarket. Has anyone tried them and care to share his/her experience please? Thank you

Hi,

I haven't tried the Beyond Meat yet. My husband likes the Morningstar farms black bean veggie burgers. The reason we haven't tried the Beyond Meat ones is they have coconut oil as an ingredient and I read that coconut oil is bad for LDL cholesterol. If Beyond Meat was made with olive oil, I would try it.

I find it unlikely that something made with black beans would be easier on the system than beef, as much as I love black beans! But perhaps fat, not fiber, is your problem.

If you are looking for something easy on the digestion I'd try turkey dogs/burgers, although the flavor and texture is less than exciting. Homemade chicken sausage is a better idea. Bruce Aidells has many excellent recipes using chicken thighs. He says to leave the skin on, but I buy boneless, skinless thighs and find that the resulting sausage is plenty juicy enough.
