Apprehensive about round three tomorrow

Postby CarolN36 » Sun Nov 08, 2020 5:49 pm

I’ve been lurking here since my diagnosis was confirmed in July. Today I decided to join the fray. I’m beginning round three tomorrow and I’m feeling anxious. I know there’s nothing any one can do to make it go well or not. I just pray. Round two I had three hospitalizations. One for pulmonary embolism, thank goodness it wasn’t bigger and kill me, two for severe dehydration. They gave me 10 liters of iv fluids over two and a half days. And three was for a temp over 100.5. They couldn’t find the source but assume it was from an esophageal sore. I think I just need your well wishes.

I wish you well! I will add that I’m a veteran of multiple chemo (FOLFOX not CAPEOX) hospitalizations. Three also, if I recall right, in my first 4 rounds. One was for a “massive” UE-DVT (though thankfully not a PE); one for arrhythmias and passing out (Good times!). I can’t even recall what the third was about. It was a bumpy ride, for sure. But it really evened out for my last 4. Just went and did ‘em. Had side effects, but nothing too horrible. The coagulation issue at least should now be managed with anti coagulation meds, and I hope and trust you’ve got a good hydration strategy, so you have a reasonable shot of having a similar experience to mine. Good luck!

Thank you all for your well wishes. It sure means a lot to know I'm in a forum with people who are willing to share their hope, strength and experience with those of us who need it. I have found so much of that just from lurking but now I feel like a full fledged member. I'll let you know how round three goes.

I hope this round is going better.

One of the advantages of folfox can be that on the day one goes in to get the pump unhooked many people also stay long enough to get a bag of fluids infused. It makes them feel a lot better. I only did this once--ironically my LAST round was the only one where I had a bad reaction--but some people do it often.

Perhaps you should go back to your infusion center for some extra fluids on Tuesday or Wednesday?

Carol,

I hope your subsequent rounds of chemo get easier. Although I don't know you, I wish that I could give you a hug. Please know that you are not alone in the cancer battle. I will say a prayer for you.

Best wishes,

Paige
