So I was thinking "Oh I wish I had that problem..." as I've put on 30lbs in 2.5 years

But then I read about all of your troubles and decided I'm okay with being chubby. I am so sorry, sounds like you're having a really rough time!

  1. Bloodwork
DarknessEmbraced wrote:... My blood work at the hospital isn't until the 27th...

For your bloodwork on the 27th, do you know which tests they will be doing? Are they going to include a Vitamin D deficiency test? Thyroid deficiency test? You might need to have these tests requested specifically if they are not on the usual list of annual check-up blood tests.

  2. Flu shot
Are you planning to get a flu shot this season? What does your doctor say? If you are planning to get a flu shot, you can schedule an appointment with one of the available clinics in town:

  3. Vitamin D supplement
Earlier you said that you couldn't take Vitamin D supplements because they didn't agree with you, but maybe that was because the brand of Vitamin D you used was one manufactured from animals, not from plants. Some patients who were highly allergic to the regular Vitamin D supplements (the ones made from sheep lanolin) found that they could tolerate plant-based Vitamin D supplements just fine.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? Maybe your doctor could give you some advice on how to increase your Vitamin D level by taking an appropriate amount of plant-based Vitamin D, extracted from lichens . You could always ask her and see what she has to say. Vitamin D can be important for boosting immunity during the winter.

I'm sorry you're dealing with that Amy G!*hugs* Thanks Amy G! :) I can take 400iu of vitamin D every other day but even that makes my hyperparathyroidism symptoms worse. Not as bad as it was when I tried to take 400iu of vitamin D every other day. Hyperparathyroidism causes severe vitamin D deficiency. I had both left parathyroids removed in two surgeries in 2004/2005. The remaining parathyroids on the right having been acting up for several years. Parathyroids control the calcium levels in the body. Parathyroids work like a thermostat. When calcium levels are too high they tell the body to release calcium from the bones to raise calcium levels. When calcium levels are normal or too high the parathyroids don't switch on. In my case my Parathyroid hormone levels(PTH) have been high for several years. My calcium has been borderline high to slightly high. I had osteoporosis and kidney stones back when I was in my 20s in 2004/2005. I had osteopenia the last time my bones were checked. My hyperparathyroidism symptoms are: always tired no matter how much I sleep, frequent urination, bone pain, joint pain/stiffness, hypertension, nephrocalcinosis(calcium deposits embedded in my kidneys), constipation, muscle weakness, and muscle cramps. http://www.parathyroid.com has a lot of wonderful information. I do know that my blood glucose, cholesterol, CEA/ CA 125, thyroid, iron levels, and liver are going to be checked. I will know once I go to get the blood tests and see the labels they print out. I bring the labels with me when I go to get my blood drawn. I had my flu shot this year with no issues. I have been on synthroid for years for hypothyroidism and I have a 1cm(the last time it was checked) nodule on my thyroid. Thank you Green Tea. :)
