looking to donate/give away supplies

Postby jep » Fri Oct 23, 2020 7:56 am

Hi everyone . . . as many of you know, my beautiful husband passed away on 9/10 (two days before his 51st birthday). My daughters and I are trying to hold it together, but the gravity of our loss is really sinking in . . . the dynamic of our house/family will just never be the same and I'm not sure how we will move forward, but I guess we just take it one day at a time.

I'm posting because I can't bear to throw away all of the unused unopened ostomy supplies, heparin and saline flushes, etc. I know that covid complicated this, but does anyone know how or where I can donate these supplies . . . there must be a need somewhere, but I've been having trouble finding a place . . . I am in New England, so please let me know if you have any input . . . I am willing to ship supplies as well.

Prayers and happiness to you all . . . you've helped our family more than you can know . . .
Jep

Hi Jep - Sorry to hear about your husband. I hope you and the family find comfort knowing that he is in a better place.

I'm not in the US but I wonder if you can google to see if there might be some nearby non-profit cancer associations and see if it might be useful for their patients. They depend on external donations and I'm sure any cancer related supplies could come in handy for them.

Our local animal hospital took all of the saline flushes, the heparin, all the bandages, and even the tubing for TPN!! So glad that it will go to use and not get thrown away . . . plus, my husband was a major animal lover, so it worked out . . . I still have lot's of ostomy supplies if anyone is interesting . . . lmk!!

This is so thoughtful of you.
You and your daughters very much in my thoughts... How old are they? When my grandmother lost her husband (my grandfather) of jaw cancer at age 64, she told me that she would have these recurring dreams of finding herself by a great chasm with no bridge and no idea of how to get across. You are walking across that chasm to the rest of your life now, one step at a time like you say, and if it feels like a balancing act on a tight rope, hopefully you will find surer footing as the days go by...
