How long do abdominal blocks last?

Postby Usmccolon » Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:46 pm

I had follow up surgery Thursday for abdominal pains I've been having since last surgery. They found and cut some adhesions and put in a block.

How long does a block normally last? I've regained feeling on sides and upper abdomen but around my belly button and down I still can't feel anything until you get to my waistline.

Is that normal?

Not sure if that is same thing I had during surgery. I believe they called it a pain block. It was put in my spine. They removed it somewhere around 30 hrs after surgery. It took a whole day I remember to get feeling back. I will say I have numbness from the belly button down on the right side from surgery. Surgeon said if I don't regain feeling after one year its permanent.

Yes it was a block for pain but it wasn't in spine since this was an outpatient surgery. I still have no feeling in the area and it's been 84 hours now. I'll probably give them a call tomorrow to let them know. this last 24 hours now I've been getting some discharge too from at least one of the incisions that's getting my shirt wet and some red dots popping up.

YES, call them first thing. It might be nothing or it might be something.
On my take home paper it said if I developed a discharge that smelled to call. If I had red streaks around surgical sight to call. But yours isn't either one of those discriptions?

Discharge seems clear and doesn't smell. Also looks like little pimples or blisters on abdomen which have clear discharge as well. Plan on calling them in an hour and a half.

Feeling started coming back today! So I saw a PA at the surgical practice today. They said it was probably good I came in.
So I had what looked like acne on abdomen and redness around incisions and also what looked like blisters that were draining slowly pretty much all the time.

Looks like I'm allergic to surgical glue! They had to remove all the surgical glue and gave me some steroid cream. So hopefully in a week or so things should be better.
