What next if desensitized chemo(oxi) get allergy?

Postby Suniva » Wed Sep 09, 2020 6:57 pm

Hi All,
We were doing treatment at mayo Rochester, taking erbitux, folfiri, for 8 cycle first treatment with 4 cycle works as ctscan showed tumors were responding, but Unfortunately after 4 cycle
Of folfiri didn’t respond like at perirectal it increased 2.2 and more small new tumors are seen at both lungs. So doc planned to give folfox and avasti, but he had already got allergic to oxi, he told he can do desensitized chemo by hospitalization. He is able to take first one but Last time my husband got allergic to desensitize chemo (oxi). Doc told folfox is one which have got more success rate but he got allergic and there is no more other good option than that. Do you any one have face these and if you have any suggestion what next treatment can be done on this. Please provide us suggestion on it. Doc also told he is not candidate for immunotherapy or radiation. I am just worrying what next can be done.
Thank u
Suniva

So sorry I was about to suggest immunotherapy until that last sentence.

I know that it is possible to desensitize, it has worked for other people. Butt I may be confused, has he been desensitized in the past?

My first time with chemo I did 19 rounds - the first 8 I did FOLFOX and Vectibix (like Erbitux) and then I started to get sensitivity to the Oxy.

So they just took away the Oxy and kept me on the remaining drugs for 11 more rounds. It got me to resectable (although in truth most of that came early on in the process).

Now I am on FOLFIRI + Vectibix but needed a bit of a break and they agreed to hold the Irinotecan for me last round.

So he may not need it in the mix at all?

Actually folfiri+erbitux doesn’t work as tumor are growing so got folfox+avastin but we already got allergic to oxi so did desensitization.

Was it a bad reaction? Can they keep him on steroids for awhile?

I am just going to throw this out there. I have seasonal allergies which sometime would give me hives. Anything could trigger it, taking a new medicine, etc. Once I got them from shoes, leather flats, that for some reason my body did not like me wearing on an out of town weekend adventure. I had worn those shoes dozens of time before without problems.

Anyway my doctor put me on Allegra over 25 yrs ago (took a presc then), just to see if it might help. I have not had hives since. It not only help, I believe it cured the problem. I still take Allegra today. Maybe something to consider.

Good luck.

The redness n itchiness start from hand through all part of body, ya they did steriod and took him rest for hour, and start again with low dose like 2hr took 4 hr and 4 hrs took 6 hrs...
