Stage 3b with Mets to my liver

Postby Rockchic217 » Wed Sep 09, 2020 4:43 pm

Hey y’all,

I’m new here. I am Lisa, 46, diagnosed stage IIIb on 9/3/19. It’s been a wild year. I began 6 weeks of chemo and radiation last October . Completed Mid November. I had my rectum removed and a colostomy placed on 1/8/2020. Pathology was clear at that time. I was in conversations with my doctor on the benefit of chemo afterward and decided to go with treatment. When they did my bloodwork beforehand, my CEA a had spiked and my liver enzymes were elevated. To the CT we go, to find out I had 3 liver tumors, all a cm or smaller. On St Patrick’s day, I started Folfox, and 5FU regime.

That brings us to now, I had a CT and pet scan both clear. I am cancer free.

Any advise on how to live knowing your cancer will return. What kind of normalcy can I expect, or do you panic over every little thing that happens to your body?

Any advise will help!!

WHOA be careful what you ask for ... we are a vibrant and gnarly group !!!

Seriously, welcome to the forum.
In terms of "coping" with watif's ...
kinda' like the COVID pandemic really
"new normal" = NOT ... it is just a new reality and nothing normal

you may well panic over every little thing because .... you are NOW one of us
WE ARE
CRC patients, survivors, caregivers, etc. etc. etc.

BUTT ... NO
not every little thing IS another new cancer emergency

BUTT .. yes you should be vigilant and make sure your docs ARE vigilant for anything which concerns YOU

Get it checked out and if it IS nothing= GREAT
if it IS something = then you have gotten to it NOW and can follow up to make it right !

Cheers and Harmony

I'm glad that you're NED (No Evidence of Disease) and I think that we all share the concern that it will return but you have to live your life as well. I assume that you're on surveillance now and you'll think about recurrence at every appointment, scan or test. But it will gradually fade over time as you get back to some sense of normalcy.

I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but an MRI will show objects in the liver that are smaller than the capacity of a CT and--I think but am not entirely sure--a PET scan, which I think matches the CT in that regard. I'd agitate to have an MRI as my followup scan.
