Hi:

I'm 50 years old and in the process of being diagnosed. So far this year, I have a normal FIT test and a normal CEA test, as well as a 9-month-old pelvic MRI that visualized a normal lower bowel. There has been no bleeding and no real symptoms but one major exception: I have a near constant, uncomfortable feeling of pressure in my tailbone/rectum that seems to get worse after a bowel movement but just remains like a dull, heavy sensation of a foreign object stuck in my tailbone region for most of the day. Literally a month ago, I had no such sensations.

My colonoscopy is a month away, provided I pass the Covid test. I have a 69-year-old aunt who was diagnosed with colon cancer two years ago after noticing blood in her stool. She had successful resection, rounds of chemo and follow-up surgery to fix the hernia the resection caused. I have an older brother whose had benign polyps removed, but nothing further.

Same here. I’m glad I found this forum. I’m 54 and had a positive fit test just as a screening. I haven’t seen any noticeable blood. I had a colonoscopy yesterday and a 25mm polyp was In my sigmoid colon was removed with a hot snare. No other polyps. I also have internal non bleeding hemorrhoids. Now I nervously wait for the pathology report. This was my first ever colonoscopy. I know I need to not get ahead of myself, but the large size of the polyp concerns me. Has anybody used the word cancer? I have been here of a few yrs now, many people have joined this forum, they assume they have this cancer butt are just waiting to get the confirmation from their doctor. Usually they diagnose themselves via Dr. Google, only to find out no cancer, just something else. Yes I understand about your aunt, yes it is best to get it checked out. Get that colonoscopy. It very well could be something else other than colon cancer. Butt again, best to find out. Try not to worry.

Have to ask, what is a FIT?? I'm a 16 yr survivor, don't remember that word, butt then again, a lot of advancements since my diagnoses.

Hopefully it is non cancerous. Not all polyps are cancerous, nor will they ever turn cancerous. Only certain types turn cancerous. Sometimes when they remove a polyp, it is precancer. Stage O, no further treatment necessary. That was my husband. Try not to worry, but please let us know your results.

FIT is a home screening test for colon cancer is called the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT). FIT detects blood in your stool.
