GYN appt

Postby beach sunrise » Mon Jul 13, 2020 9:58 am

Hi, I have a gyn appt today and was wondering if there is anything I need to discuss with her about cancer that she might not bring up or know alot about concerning my cancer? The only thing I can think of is discussing a hysterectomy?

Maybe the after effects of radiation and chemo :
vaginal strictures / scarring / pain, hormonal changes / chemo induced menopause

these seem to be the major topics of discussion with many female members here
Hoping some others can chime in and give their thoughts for you

Best wishes

Agree to what CR Guy wrote. My surgeon was nice enough to take out my female organs during my surgery. Radiation threw me into menopause with in the first week of radiation. But I was prepared. I already had a GYN tell me a few years prior that I should get everything out in 10 yrs. I suffered a miscarriage and that GYN had to go inside and removed the fetus. Shortly after that, we moved, and I never really had a chance to find out what he saw.

I have serious scaring inside my vagina, been told it is some of the worst a GYN has ever seen. Today I experience occasional bleeding in my vagina as a result of radiation damage. I have a permanent colostomy as a result of radiation damage.

Yes I would push for a hysterectomy, rectal cancer can met to that area. I believe that is why my surgeon agreed to do mine. Research was coming forward at that time that this cancer can spread to that area.

If you have any questions, fire away. Good luck,

Thanks you guys!!! I wish my surgeon had of done a hysterectomy during primary surgery. I talked with my gyn. She didn't recommend a hysterectomy as preventive because of the surgery I had that included vaginal wall reconstruction. She said we need to wait and will keep a very close watch on me every 6 mths. She is going to do an ultrasound on the 28th. She is doing genetic testing also. Nothing was mentioned about strictures, scarring and such so I will ask her in 2 wks about it.
Again, thank you so much. You guys gave me a super great start! I was very nervous and not informed enough for today but I have 2 more wks to ask about any concerns.

Update: Thanks to you all I was more informed this visit with gyn. Ultrasound showed no tumors. Everything looked good, no strictures, scarring, nothing out of the normal for my age, Whew!!! Genetic testing for womens cancer was very low risk. Colorectal risk for mets however according to gyn is something we need to do an ultrasound for every 6 months for 3 yrs as of now.
Again Thank you Thank you for the info and advice to keep check on this.
