SBRT

Postby Cydni50 » Mon Apr 20, 2020 5:26 am

Hi all, My latest Pet/CT scan now shows another small tumour in my left lung after the RFA treatment in January. My question is could this be seeding? I don't believe this new tumour was there previously as it has never been reported on from any scans. Also has anyone had SBRT and can advise what to expect? Thanks in advance for any information...

8) Hi there,

I have done SBRT, but not to my lungs. I know someone who has done SBRT to their lungs. I can share with you both experience.

SBRT was very easy to me. I had a total of 5 sessions to my pelvic area, I hadn't done more as it would damage too much of my colon. Each session lasted for about 15 mins (the actual session lasted for 10 mins, 5 mins went to ensuring you are positioned correctly in the machine). No pain, didn't feel anything. A tiny bit nausea, no diahrrea, no dry skin, nothing.
I had some back pain some days after sessions completion which may or may not be related to SBRT.

My friend who did SBRT to her lungs had more nausea but very easy compared to chemo, some pressing to the chest when walking up stairs or walking fast. Also quite easy to her.

It's a great technology from my point of view. Gd luck to you! 8)

Same as Lovelife789 - DH had SBRT for his spine and it worked great, minimal side effects (a little nausea and fatigue but only during the treatment, not after). I believe others on this forum have had it done on lung mets.

Also not lungs, but DH had SBRT done on his liver in Dec. 2017. He was tired, but that seemed to be his only real issue. He had 5 sessions a week for 3 weeks.

I had SBRT to one lung met, 5 sessions over 2 weeks, as I recall. I didn't notice much difference, maybe just some fatigue.

Thanks everybody for your responses. So interesting to see all the different journeys we are on. Zephyr did you need to have the metal seed inserted into the lung tumour prior to the radiation treatment?

No. The only thing I had to do prior to SBRT was go in for a scan to identify the exact location of the tumor, and then they marked it on my skin so they could zero in precisely during the treatments.

Hi,
I had SBRT to my left lung around the same time you did and wondering how you are doing.

I'm about six months out and just went for my second follow up CT scan and of course very nervous. What's your experience been like?

For me, mostly fatigue, winded a bit easier, a tiny bit of soreness in the lung.

Best,
James
Diagnosed with stage III rectal tumor (though probably late stage II) January 2006.
Chemo/Radiation
Full APR Surgery
Folfox Chemo
So far NED.
Oops. Liver tumor diagnosed 10/13 after elevated CEA. Liver resection for 5cm tumor 12/6/13. So far so good.
Oops again, one tumor in each lung diagnosed 8/8/16. One too small to deal with and the other resected in late September. Wait and watch for now.
Oops, another lung Met in upper left lobe on edge of previous resection scar 11/11/19.
