Has anyone had Y90 Radionembolization?

Postby camicom » Mon Apr 13, 2020 8:30 am

Looks like my oncologist was a little hopeful telling me I would probably qualify for a resection. The surgeon still didn't like the amount of liver I would have left so it was a no go. He suggested Y90, which I've been told before from a Interventional Radiologist that I would be a candidate. All of my blood work, including liver function, is completely normal, and my largest tumor is 1.4cm(there are many).

Anyone had this procedure? Any info would greatly be appreciated.
6/17 Colonoscopy 5cm Malignant Neoplasm in Transverse Colon
CEA 1.2
Stage 3A
BRAF Neg
11/23 CT scan showed multiple Liver Mets
12/03 MRI showed 35 Liver mets largest being 2cm many very small Not resectable
12/10 CEA 4.5nl
12/11 Port Placement
12/12 Liver Biopsy confirming tumor same type as before
12/17 Started FolFox with Avastin
3/21 MRI Showed average 40% shrinkage and tumor inactive or dead
4/15 Started 4000mg daily of Xeloda as Maintenance
6/24 CT scan showed no growth, everything stable

On this forum, most of the Y90 posts are found under the keyword "SIRT". (Please note that on this forum you cannot simply search for Y90 since the keyword "Y90" does not have the required minimum four characters. You have to search for SIRT instead.)

Hi. I had SIRT/Y90 in October 2017 while I was on my first year of immunotherapy (Keytruda) to take care of a lesion that although PET negative was noted to have contrast uptake on CT (meaning it still had a blood supply). By that time that was the only lesion left unresponsive and all others had disappeared on almost half a year of treatment. I discussed it with my doctors and they agreed it was an low risk option for me.

There are 2 steps. The first is an hepatic artery angiogram to map out which area should receive treatment. They also consider the amount of liver that needs treatment. They discharge you after and schedule the actual radioembolization on a separate date.

Not much side effects except for abdominal discomfort, nausea, fatigue. They will monitor liver function after. Hope this helps.
