Good luck tomorrow. I too have a permanent bag, coming up on 16 years now. Best decision I ever made. There is a learning curve in the beginning, butt after a while, dealing with it is like brushing your teeth. Second nature.

There is a web site UOAA. United Ostomy Association of America

https://www.uoaa.org/forum/index.php

that you might want to check out.

Just remember to walk, walk, walk, the hospital halls. I truly believe it does help in the healing process.

You can do this,

Lee
rectal cancer - April 2004
46 yrs old at diagnoses
stage III C - 6/13 lymph positive
radiation - 6 weeks
surgery - August 2004/hernia repair 2014
permanent colostomy
chemo - FOLFOX
NED - 16 years and counting!

It does play with your mind, but know you need this and will be fine! I too had this surgery. Being a planner and one who has to know everything I watched the surgery online to be better prepared so I wouldn't freak out when I woke up. I'll be thinking about you. Please update when you feel like it. And remember, You will be fine!!!!

Here I am 3 weeks post surgery and I’m still in some super uncomfortable pain but I’m dealing and it’s getting better and better every day! I’m able to do more and more every day still no sitting anywhere so I get super frustrated going from standing to laying all day
