Anyone heard about TAS102?

Postby Mercy110 » Wed Feb 12, 2020 12:15 am

After receiving the treatments (please take a look at my signature), pet scan showed my mum’s rectum might have another tumour again. She had thus received radiotherapy for 25 times in December and now taking rest.

The doctor now suggested my mum to start TAS102 now but we had never heard about this drug in HK. Can anyone give us some comment on the drug and side effect? Her CEA was about 217.3 now, but she could still manage self care.

2017-05: Surgery with stoma. T4N1M0. Stage3C. Xeloda Only. Increasing CEA. CT: Multiple lung nodules. Stage4.

2018-03 to 05: Folfox Allergy, Folfiri (with Avastin since Oct)
2019: CEA:178, started Irinotecan+Zaltrip+TS-1, 25 times radio with xeloda
2020: CEA up, Stivarga for 6 months
2021: CEA up, 7L O2 and 24-hour morphine, on pc care

Hi Mercy110,

TAS102 is more commonly known as Lonsurf, which may help with your research. I don’t have first hand experience with this but others here might.

Best of luck,

Perhaps this link to Wikipedia will be useful. As I recall reading it seems to be more commonly used in Japan for some reason.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trifluridine/tipiracil

Its a similar to Xeloda or 5-FU treatment, though is newer. I think if you search for it using the search function on these forums you may find posts about it in the past here.

Thank you so much for the replies. I do found some more information with the name Lonsurf. Anyone with first-hand experience here for the drug? My mum had tried Xeloda / 5-fu before but this drug alone seems not so promising... makes me wonder how useful Lonsurf could be.

Again no first hand experience, but my understanding is this: it seems that the *average* benefit that people get from this drug is fairly modest, at best. However a proportion of people will do better than the average (and in some cases, a lot better) and it is difficult to know beforehand which they will be. So I can see an argument for trying the drug to see if the response is on the better side of the median. The side effects can also be somewhat rough, so they’ll likely watch blood counts etc closely as well.
