Surgery on main valve?

Postby Trying » Sun Feb 09, 2020 2:49 pm

I want to be armed with questions for my oncologist this week. One problem is that I have a met on my liver on a valve. I remember a couple people mentioning a surgical process for getting rid of these. Does anyone know? Anyone had on valve that shrunk enough for surgery or disappeared from chemo?

None of the hepatic arteries have valves, nor does the portal vein. There are bile ducts. Is that what you are talking about?

Dr. Solomon (an interventional radiologist) at Memorial Sloan Kettering did an Irreversible electroporation (nonthermal ablative technology that uses high-voltage, low-energy DC current pulses to induce cell death) on a tumor in my liver that was too close to the portal vein to attempt standard ablation. (tumors near a large vein cannot be heated to high enough temperatures to kill the cancer cells without damaging the vein. In my case, the IRE worked and the tumor was eradicated...allowing the resection of the tumors in other lobes of my liver. Perhaps this is a possibility for you? Have you considered an HAI pump?
