Give yourself time. Every day will get a little bit better. I sometimes think it's the stress of everything that can wear you down more than the surgery. Just try an relax and things will get back to normal.

Praying for your recovery and good pathology results!

I hope you start to feel better soon. Have you been released to go home? Did your doctor say what the next step is?

Yes I’ve been home for 2 days now. Just have a lot of soreness in my back. I think I’m over compensating for not wanting to strain my stomach muscles. I follow up with my doctor this coming Friday.

Don't be a hero when it comes to pain meds. Try to walk around several times a day, even if it is inside the house. (When on the phone, for example.) I don't have any experience with back pain. what drove me nuts was the surgical staples. SO happy to have them out! :) But presumably that isn't as issue for you. See what you can do with gentle stretching, heat, etc to help your back.

Hi Deb, thanks for checking in. I spoke with my doctor on Friday about pathology. Feeling fortunate I was staged at stage 1. The mass was the size of a golf ball but only went through the first layer of the colon. She removed 26 lymph nodes and all came back negative.

As you can imagine a major weight was lifted. And I came out of the appointment with emotions I still didn’t really understand. Relieved but also feeling the overwhelming, I don’t know if it’s guilt or what knowing people come out of those appointments with worse news.

I still am trying to heal the fissure that started all of this, it’s such a pain in the ass literally but I believe it literally saved my life as much as I hate dealing with it. Because otherwise I wasn’t really experiencing any sort of real symptoms. I believe maybe my body was trying to tell me something was wrong on the inside.

My brother had his surgery on Friday which we are now waiting on his pathology. The whole experience for my family has been surreal.

At this time waiting to set an appointment with an oncologist who will monitor me for a while I’m sure. My ct scan did show a mass on my right adrenal gland which they are calling an incidental finding at this time cause it doesn’t seem to be associated with the Cancer, so one worry now shifts to another.

But again feeling very fortunate. And feeling thankful for you and your husband. His story was the first that I could find that seemed somewhat similar to mine so I will forever be grateful.

Wow, that is really, really good news!

How refreshing to have someone staged at I! :D
I hope the fissure can be dealt with ASAP, and best to your brother, also.

That is such great news! I do hope and pray that your brother has the same good outcome! As far as the adrenal gland thing. We'll just hope it's nothing to concerning.

Keep me posted on your brother's findings.

Because you and your brother have this, did they do genetic testing? Just a thought.

Once again , so happy for you.

God bless,

Deb

Hey! Yes his turned out to be early stage 2. I believe he meets with his oncologist on the 14th to see what thoughts will be on further treatment.

I met with my oncologist today for the first time. He seems super thorough. He believes we might have lynch syndrome. They drew my blood for genetic testing today to find this out.

He told me in most cases of stage 1 I’d be done. But because of my adrenal mass he is ordering more blood work and scans. Said in his mind he’s treating it as cancer until the tests tell him otherwise. Which I’m glad he is being thorough but also trying not to panic about a possible second form of cancer in just a couple months time.

So my week has been filled with further MRI, Pet/ct scan and blood work. At this point praying nothing else will be found. I follow up with him on the 18th. So just a roller coaster of emotions.

I'm glad they are doing genetic testing. Do you and your brother have the same doctors?

Praying and hoping that the adrenal growth is not cancer and can be dealt with easily.

Keep me posted!

Isolated adrenal mets are uncommon in mCRC, but they happen (see my signature!). I really hope what the scan caught is just benign (quite common), but should it be otherwise, I’ve done a lot of research on them (which I’ll post in a new thread soon) and there are excellent treatment options these days. Still, hoping for a benign cyst (or just nothing, a glitch in the scan!).

Hey Claudine. Yes I’ve been freaking out naturally especially when you google adrenal cancer. Which I’ve had to stop. The size is 3.2cm according to my last ct scan in December.

My anesthesiologist for my surgery mentioned the possibility of it being a pheo due to my blood pressure spiking after surgery.

But I’ve had blood pressure issues and sort of what I thought was panic attacks that started about 6-7 years ago. So I’m assuming this mass is what’s been messing with my blood pressure. The panic attacks stopped around 2 years ago. So who knows what’s going on. He told me adrenal cancer is very rare he said maybe like a 5% chance. But he said if he saw a suspicious box on an airplane he’d treat it like a bomb until proven otherwise. So told me not to freak out but he was being cautious.

So anything right now you can give to ease my mind might be appreciated. Lol

I wouldn't think of adrenal cancer, but a metastasis from your colon caner to the adrenal gland; that's a BIG difference! Adrenal mets are very treatable.

I hope everything went well for you! An important note don't forget to do mop up chemo. My DH swept it under the rug (he still gets chemo into his hepatic pump ((liver dominant as nt crc)) and we are realizing that wasn't very smart.

I knew but he is stubborn. Pain is temporary and before toy know it it's a memory. Best of luck.
DH dx stage IV liver mets largest 6x6.4 cm
Colonoscopy/endoscopy/port place 5/29
4cm mass in splenic flexure
1st round FolFox 5/30
08/2018 new CT no new lesions, clear lungs, slight decrease in colon.
3/2019 PET scan shows greater than 6-7 liver mets largest measuring 3x3 cm. No growth nothing new.
8/15/19 largest liver lesion 1.9x2.1
9/16/2019 OSU to proceed with surgery implant HAI and colon resection
11/19 resection of colon HAI placed
2/20 CEA back to 1000s, liver worse than when we began-start FOLFIRI
