Off Topic: British Colombia Travel Question

Postby zephyr » Sat Dec 28, 2019 3:25 pm

Carpe Diem is my New Year's Resolution. I have tried not to let CRC hold me back from making plans but, as we probably all have experienced, it doesn't always work out that way. For myself, how can you make vacation plans when you don't know what chemo you'll be on in 6 months or how you'll feel? Difficult or impossible to get travel insurance as a Stage IV patient (or some I'm told). Well, forget that. I'm stepping into 2020 with the conviction that everything will be fine, that life goes on, that I will beat this thing, that every moment counts, and that it's time to step outside my comfort zone and get back to exploring the world outside the cancer center. I've thought several times about exploring British Columbia: Vancouver Island has my interest at the moment because of what I've read is beautiful scenery and a thriving arts community. Is there anyone here who knows more about the area and can privately give me some advice?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the links. I had found others but not as good as the ones you posted.

Part of our problem was that we really didn't know what we wanted to do because we didn't know what was easily available. We like all kinds of things but especially enjoy the sound of water, quiet places that offer wildlife, quiet walks in natural settings, and art. That's what drew me to British Columbia - it seemed to offer all those things. We prefer low-rise, quiet, off-the-beaten track hotels to high rises. BC scores again. I love to bike ride, my husband not so much ... but I'm fine taking off by myself to ride & explore. Looks like there's plenty of that also.

Hey,

I live in WA State and have traveled numerous times to Victoria (Vancouver Island). We took family vacations there, spent a few days here and there up in Victoria and have explored other parts of the island. PM me with specific questions that I might be able to answer. I absolutely LOVE the area. The ambiance, character and the scenery of the island is just beautiful. Not sure how you will be travelling there....we take the ferry up....generally the one that goes through the San Juan Islands....just for the scenery and to see the orcas.
More than glad to share my thoughts of the island.

Whoa! I sent a long PM and it's ... gone. You didn't get it and it's not in my Sent folder or in Drafts. I know I'm not making this up, I wrote and sent it. My chemo brain is not THAT bad. I'll try again.
