Two days prep

Has anyone ever had to do two days of go litely prep not one day but two days to prep for a colonoscopy

My prep was divided in two parts, one in the late afternoon and then morning for the second half. Is this what you mean? I think in hospitals that still use the Golightly prep (many do not) this is the newer standard.

We have had some folks here who have done this, so maybe it is an "option" ????

I have only done the one day PicoSalax prep and have gladly avoided / missed all the "-Preps" and "-Lytely's"


I still hold firm to my convictions :
IF the Docs who order these vile preps HAD to try them first ....
we would have way less VILE PREPS !!!!

No they expect you to do 2 gallons of this stuff on two separate days prior to the colonoscopy I laughingly asked the doctor is this because go lightly just doesn't work and he just laughed. Needless to say I will be doing a one day prep that will not be go lightly that will actually give a better prep then go lightly.

As far as I remember Miralax + Gatorade won "Tasters Choice" award on this forum.
At the same time, according to my calculations, it's inferior from physiological/osmosity point of view to classic GoLitely etc. PEG 3350 based preps.

The easiest I have ever had.....

What my GI doc has me do is the following:

Day 1 you can eat a low residue breakfast and even a light low residue lunch - no hunger headaches!
2 Dulcolax tabs around 3PM on first day
Early evening drink 1 qt of Golytely (NOT half of the jug)

In the AM 4 hr prior to test, another qt of the GO stuff - throw the other half away.

I have been clean every time and I don't even think the prep is all that bad.

Suprep is the best !!

The "consensus" among gastros where I am seems to be Suprep. My surgeon who did my colonoscopy (gastro could not removed a very large polyp I had w/out putting a hole in my colon) also prefers the suprep. They all say it gives them the best "visuals". (I will refer to as SP)

My prep before this was ducolax+Miralax+Gatorade protocol. (I will refer to as DMG)

My thoughts, having done both, are as follows:

SP allows you to spend most of your day before colonoscopy not doing a prep. But it's a (2-day) regimen. Day one I did't start it til late in the afternoon so I had most of my day free from having to be near a bathroom. It involves drinking less stuff. But that stuff sure tastes awful. You must drink two (2) more 16-ounce containers of water over the next 1 hour after you drink the Suprep mixture.
So you start later, get the first round of cleanout done, then you can go to bed early and rest. BUT, It's a split prep, so the next one you do is at 5a.m. in the morning. This doesn't fit into my schedule, as I am not an early riser, and I don't go to bed early, so actually caused me to get less sleep. Also, drinking nasty tasting stuff first thing in the morning is hard, and so is getting down the other 2 16-oz waters, which have to be completed 2 hours before your actual procdedure.
Financially, Medicare would not pay for it, the Suprep was about $100. So there's that.

DMG downside is you pretty much spend the entire day before colonscopy doing prep. Upside is that once that is all over, you go to bed, wake up on day of your colonscopy, and you are DONE. Also it's cheap to buy the stuff you need. DMG can be a long day, though, because this is also a split dose prep. You start in the morning, do the first dose. It does require drinking a whole lot of gatorade, and I hate gatorade because it makes my reflux very bad, and makes me quite nauseous. Then, once you are thru that, you have to start on the 2nd dose a few hours later. On DMG I felt "tied to the bathroom all day long". But once done, you are done. You wake up next morning and can simply go to your procedure.

Hope this helps someone. I think it all really depends on your schedule as well as your sleeping schedule. If you work, you can most likely leave work at 3pm the day before your colonscopy (you are still on a liquid diet of course) and start your prep at 4pm. You don't end up losing a whole day before your colonscopy. The bad part for me was waking up at 5am to do the other dose, because I normally don't sleep until after midnight or so.

I've only done the day before Miralax prep and the fasting isn't an issue because I do it routinely. I haven't heard of the two day approach.

I cannot even fathom doing a golitley prep two days in a row (or fathom why it would be needed). I'm gagging just thinking about the taste of it.

This is really close to what I do. That little bit of food with low residue is huge. I don't take the tabs (had a bad reaction to them) but I don't get through the entire jug anymore and I've always been clean.

To me, the most important issue is stated as follows: They (the doctors) all say it gives them the best "visuals".

I had a colonoscopy in 2008 (after using the "drink a gallon of liquid" method). The doctor said it was perfect and told me to come back in 10 years (2018). Due to low hemoglobin levels in December, 2013, I had another colonoscopy. The doctors found a flat, cancerous polyp in the cecum that was missed in 2008. The rest is history. I now only use Suprep. I hold my nose, and it only takes three swigs to get it all down..once the night before and once the day of. The colorectal surgeon recommended it....and I don't want another "unseen" polyp.

Well this is the third strike for go litely and the last time I will ever use it. I followed the schedule of using the 1st gallon on Saturday and the 2nd gallon yesterday but here I am less than three hours away from reporting for my colonoscopy and I am still not clear after 2 gallons of the stuff i am still blasting away in the bathroom so I have called them and left a message to cancel this appointment because if they try to go in my back door I'm going to spray all over them with stool that is not clear. this is the ridiculous waste of time call Golytely. NEVER AGAIN.
