I never had any liver pain while getting chemo in my HAI pump. However, since he has fluid around the pump, that alone might be causing him some discomfort. Just a little bit of excess fluid can feel really painful sometimes.
There's one other possibility: the ability of the nurses to access the pump. If they aren't skilled in accessing it or if the fluid is making it difficult to access, they might be bruising the area.
Isn't he taking systemic chemo with his HAI pump chemo, something like Irinotecan? The systemic chemo might be causing the nausea. I had "morning sickness" nausea too. What helped me the most was taking an Ativan before bedtime. It helped me sleep better too, but mainly it helped with feeling sick to my stomach in the morning. It's just a tiny pill with no real side-effects. Maybe you can talk him into asking his onc for a prescription?
Also, make sure he is hydrated. It's hard to drink enough on chemo and dehydration greatly increases nausea. I found out that eating lots of little snacks during the day helps too. My go-to snack was Goldfish crackers. Just a handful of them quelled my grumpy tummy! I carried a bag of them with me everywhere, just like a toddler!
