7 Year cancerversary

Hi All
There seems to have been a recent wave of these so I thought I'd continue to trend.
7 years ago today I woke up from a colonoscopy to hear the words "you have cancer". This was followed up the next day with a CT Scan where I found out that I was stage IV with a lesion on my lung at the age of 39.
Like all, I was all doom and gloom, but I met some really good medical support teams, had some really good discussions with people on this board, listed about what I could do and currently, 7 years later I am still here NED at the age of 46.
I feel lucky, and privileged to still be this way when so many others that started of at a better place than I did are no longer here.
I appreciate this site so much and my best wishes extended to all that are undergoing active treatment, and those that are no longer getting treatment but still concerned with a recurrence.

Congrats Kiwi on another year of freedom! It's great to see others that appear to have beaten the terrible prognosis. Hoping you have many more cancerversaries to celebrate!

Such good news and it’s always good to hear . My mum also had a good scan . It’s really important for new people to hear that there is purpose in enduring treatment for a growing group of people .

kiwiinoz -

Thank you for checking in, and congratulations on your 7th cancerversary!

Also, I want to thank you for your many contributions to this forum in the past. You, along with Brownbagger, have made a lasting contribution to this forum with your monthly exercise and weight loss threads. These threads are truly a legacy to be valued and cherished.

There are many on this forum (myself included) who have benefited from these threads and owe a debt of gratitude to you for your insistence on keeping 'exercise' as the focus of our attention.

Take care, and best wishes for the years ahead.

Hi Jacques

I think I used exercise as a way of getting rid of stress and as a way of punishing my body for "deceiving me". If I could push my body, then not only would there be positive changes in my body, but according to a number of studies I read, it would possibly give you a greater chance of avoiding a recurrence, plus I always felt better after exercising no matter what. All that positive vibe etc, and at that time I needed positivity, and if that helped you and others then I am really glad.

I still exercise, more into marathons now but we are coming on to our summer and it has warming up, and we have started an extensive season of bush fires. I live in a state in Australia called New South Wales and there was about 150 fires around the state and Sydney (where I live) was covered in smoke for the best part of two weeks so I gave up my running and used my home gym to exercise.

I was inspired by Brownbagger and if I have helped others on the way I am simply passing on his legacy, which makes me happy.

I thank you very much for your comments, as they too made me happy.

Fires are a problem on the west coast of the US too. I tried wearing an N-95 face mask during my runs but felt like I was suffocating. So far my solution has been to go up higher in the mountains since the fires are usually in the lower areas or near the coast. Above 6,000 feet there's no smoke, but on the other hand I'm in a very remote area so I have to be careful.

Do you use a treadmill or an elliptical at home? Do you wear different trainers (sneakers) than for an outside run?
