I now have a hard bulge under my stoma which looks exactly like a hernia. Any tips other than surgery to keep it from growing or maybe helping it go down a bit? Or is this wishful thinking. I feel like a building that keeps getting hit with a wrecking ball. One thing after another as it is for many of us.

Glad you and the little one are OK ... scary when our kids need us like that !
Checking in with Docs would be a good step just to assess IF it needs any more attention ???
"My first instinct was to pick him up." >>>>>> Damn straight !!!!! <<<<<<<<
BUTT ... another option, if mobility permits, would be to get yourself down onto the floor with him,
so you can hold/comfort him without the added "mechanical" stress on your body ???? just a thought if this happens again
I know the INSTINCT reflex. It caused me to rupture my quads tendon right off my patella
and this is ME who has trained martial arts for decades, where we try to RE-train our instincts
... BUTT when loved ones are involved, I know ... they always come first
All the best to you and your son
You are a great Mom !
