Professionals?

Postby garbovatwin » Sat Nov 23, 2019 1:22 pm

Have a sister in law.
Checks in to a hospital.
They discover gall bladder cancer.
For nearly a week they battle infections she received in hospital.

Surgery 1. Remove Gall bladder and part of the liver redirecting bile duct to small intestine.
Surgery they say went well but she still had to take a ton of anti b’s to ward off infection. One week later she is sent home.

After about 1 week she must return to the hospital unable to breathe. They drain 2 liters of fluid from her lungs and keep a drain in place because they continue to fill. Abdomen is filling with fluid so they place a drain for that. By now she is terribly weak and still has infection.

Surgery 2. They went in last night to search for a suspected leak. They repaired a tear in the colon created during the liver part of the surgery. Put a stoma in place.

This morning upon inspection they said her colon is severely darkened and dying. My brother is told they must perform an emergency removal of the entire colon, that it is life threatening. Now mind you this is 8 hours after they were inside patching up the colon.

Surgery 3. As I write this she is in surgery to have the entire colon removed.

When she reported for cancer surgery, there was nothing wrong with her colon or small intestine.

I ask you, DOES THIS SOUND NORMAL?

Really sorry to hear about your sister in law . I am glad her surgeons have operated right away. My aunt had it and if it’s the same thing the bowel is starved of blood and starts to die .

Various factors can bring the condition on such as infection . Not sure about the timings of the recent surgery. Again only if it’s the same condition it’s absolutely necessary to remove the bowel .
Take care ,

My sister-in-law died at 0320 this morning. Per an agreement with her husband to never be on life-support she was taken off and expired.

Complications post third surgery in the form of being unable to keep her blood pressure high enough to stay alive, having her kidneys shut down and dialysis not work, the surgeons suspected that somehow through all of this she had sustained brain damage.

One never knows what the outcome is going to be when you admit to a hospital for something major.

So sorry to hear that . Sending my love to you all . I did not want to mention it last night but my gran died in theatre with it . Gently slipped away . Her daughter several years later . It’s a life threatening condition .
Such a terrible tragic turn of events for your brother . He must be traumatised.
Hope your all surrounded by love at this difficult time .

I’m so sorry to hear this. Sounds like a really difficult couple of days / weeks, especially to end so suddenly. Sending love and healing to you and your brother.
