Hiccup

Hi,

Anyone develop hiccup with premed and chemo? I dad has recently development hiccup. Not sure if dexamethasone cause it. How do you get rid of hiccup?

IME, take 10 sips of water, swallowing each separately, while holding your breath. Works like a charm. I haven't ever had a persistent hiccup, though.

I tend to get hiccups for 1-2 days after chemo (folfoxiri). Hiccups tend to be persistent during the one day and to restart if I manage to get them stopped. Seems harmless enough although a bother.

My grandmother always gave me a teaspoon of sugar water (with plenty of sugar, not some mamby-pamby diet-type solution). Worked like a charm. Now, about this next part - I don't think I'm making this up. I dated an ER doc many moons ago and I once mentioned this sugar water thing to him. He said it actually made some sense because (if I remember correctly) ER rooms use glucose for hiccups.
