Bad symptoms every 5 days

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Fri Nov 15, 2019 10:07 am

Since the 4th every 5 days I get horrible cramping, bloating, gas, lots of soft bowel movements then diarrhea. In between those days I have either no bowel movements at all or constipation. So I've had this on the 4th, the 9th, and the 14th. This has never happened to me before. I have lost a little weight but that happened before this pattern started. I keep a food diary so I can look for patterns, problem foods and also what helps. I took a buscopan last night.

Honestly this could totally be some stomach flu. There's a lot of that seasonal stuff going around right now. If you had a clear CT scan recently, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's easy to attribute any bad physical condition to cancer, but it turns out we can have all kinds of things wrong with us at the same time. 8)

I had a clear colonoscopy back in September. I just had my 5 year CT scan on Wednesday and won't get results until I see my family doctor on the 21st. I had the flu shot. I don't think it's any type of flu. I don't think it's related to cancer but maybe some other type of digestive condition. Yes, unfortunately I have multiple conditions. Maybe it's related to my high calcium from my hyperparathyroidism. I'm seeing the endocrinologist on the 29th.

Could it be from stress in waiting your CT results. I know when my husband had a ct, the days before and days after, waiting for the results would really play with my digestive system. Anxiety and stress would take about 10 pounds off me every ct time.

the flu shot only covers flu a and b. the "stomach flu" is not an actual flu virus, just called that because of how virulent it is. Gastroenteritis can last a few weeks, but usually the acute stages (vomiting, nausea, fever, etc) last 1-3 days. We just had a nasty bout of stomach flu (norovirus) sweep through our family caught it at a birthday party. Left no one in the house untouched. It was awful.

It sounds like me when I have a Small Bowel Obstruction. Though it doesn't happen on a regular basis for me.

Are you eating very little on days when you can't go and then eating a lot a few days later?

I don't know if you have an SBO or not - but what you're reporting is similar to what I see.

I’m going thru the exact same thing! Had a CT end of October. All was good. But I been fighting same symptoms for about 2 weeks. Saw my PC doctor last week and told her. She said to go on probiotics for about two weeks. So, I started that today. Colonoscopy was clear in April

Hope you feel better soon

Deb, I feel stress waiting for CT scan results but I've never had these type of digestive symptoms while waiting. kandj, I'm sorry your family went through that!*hugs* I haven't had a fever and no vomiting. NHMike, I've been eating less overall for the most part because I equate eating with pain. When my symptoms are really bad I will do a liquid diet for one meal then low fiber afterward. I hope I don't have a Small Bowel Obstruction. The symptoms do kind of remind me of an obstruction which resolves itself. There have been times where it seems like my digestive system is trying to completely empty itself all in one night. I'm sorry you deal with that!*hugs* KathyLynn, I'm sorry you're dealing with the same symptoms and I hope you feel better soon!*hugs* Congratulations on the clear colonoscopy and clear CT! Thank you. I can't use probiotics as they cause severe cramping and diarrhea. I had one Align pill and suffered for hours afterward. Probiotic yogurt does the same thing. I can eat regular yogurt.

My husband seemed to start this exact same pattern. it seemed that it started the day of his chemo treatment and unfortunately we waited too long and he got really constipated and that causes some serious pain for him near his resection called tenesmus, So last time he started to notice again lack of bowel movement then to very hard to pass so right away he started a stool softner and miralax and it worked and kept him from getting too constipated however it seemed to cause soft stool for about 3 days, so for him I think his chemo has a lot to do with it.
