Celebrating 10 years of survival today

Postby wifenurse » Tue Oct 29, 2019 7:49 pm

10 years ago today my 39 year old husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal cancer with liver mets. It was a grueling year of treatment with radiation and continuous infusion of 5FU, followed by surgery with resection of the colorectal tumor and liver met, followed by 6 more months of chemo with Folfox and Avastin. Time was grim in those days and the friends we met here shared so much knowledge and life experience - it guided us through that year. We saw sad endings and happy outcomes as well. As unbelievable as it seemed at the time, today we are celebrating the 10 year mark cancer free. He has been in remission since the initial treatment and is considered cured. He has been here to watch our children graduate high school and college and start their professional lives. He had the opportunity to spend 3 years in his dream job with the US Marshall service. Our lives are full and healthy today. I hope his story provides hope to those in the battle. Hang in there - there are miracles!

Wow that is awesome! Thank you for sharing, as my husband has only had his 4th round of chemo after his colon resection, it's hard to see the end of the tunnel but your story and ones like these are very encouraging. Thank you for sharing.
