I had no symptoms or known history of colon cancer in my family when I was diagnosed during my first, routine, baseline colonoscopy. After having regular follow-up colonoscopies, I was diagnosed with an aggressive Stage IV recurrence a few years later. As part of my genetic testing, I ran down many estranged family members for information. Turns out there was a history on my grandmother's side of the family ... but no one ever talked about it. Even if you don't have a true history, the consensus on this board will be: if there's even a chance, why WOULDN'T you have the colonoscopy? Seriously, it could save your life.
