Any prepping and scoping buddies out there ?

Postby CRguy » Sat Oct 05, 2019 7:04 pm

Historically here, we used to do :
scan buddy chats, surgery buddy chats, insomnia chats
which were usually ASSociated with someone being on chemo and wired on anti-nauseants / dexamethasone

AND... wait for it ..... COLONOSCOPY PREPS
where it doesn't matter if you wanna be awake or not
'cos ..... sumpin's gotta give

Just testing the waters here to see if there are any intrepid souls who will be
"baring it all in the name of scopin' ? "

ME : preppin' Tuesday and scoping Wednesday

Come ON clubbers bring it
we got some preppin' to do !!!!!

Thanks DE
Tuesday I use dulcolax once in the a.m. then 2 doses of PicoSalax later in the day, with the scoping early Wednesday.
This has always worked well in the past.

I'm having a colonoscopy tomorrow. I have had a time getting clean in the past. I took laxatives yesterday and this morning. Doing the clear liquid diet today and beginning GoLightly tonight beginning at 6 pm. Cheers!

I'm in need of mine and need to schedule. Used Suprep last time & won't be doing that again.

Best wishes for a gentle clean out and a clean out...come.

Had my 2 year scope a couple of weeks ago. I didn't read the instructions carefully and went past the time where I should have been on the liquid diet. Thought I was all sorts of screwed. Especially since, things didn't seem to go "clear" till a few hours before the procedure. I thought for sure my doc would see I didn't prep properly and call off everything. Fortunately, everything was clear as evidenced by the report he gave me with some pics of my colon. He even noted it as such. I guess because I have so much less of my colon now, that the extent of the prep is less. I also got the biopsy results from the 3 polyps he took out. All benign. So the next time is going to be 3 years from now.

Also, I chose to be put under this time. I did the last two wide awake. Certainly was nicer not having to feel the discomfort of the scope moving around in me and the bloated feeling of them blowing up my colon with air. Next up my 6 month blood work and scans. Not looking forward to that circus with my still elevated CEA numbers.

Getting reading for my "fall cleaning" in 3 weeks.. Will be taking 2 Dulcolax 2 days before and liquid fasting topped with 64oz of Crystal Light Lemonade mixed with MiraLAX® 238 grams (8.3 ounces) beginning at 3:00pm. I can't even go in the isle that sells Crystal Light Lemonade with gagging! My husband picked it up for me. Good Luck CRguy...I will be shortly following you!

Hi,

I did my colonoscopy on 9/2019 without any med or sedation. I read that in Asia and Europe no med is used. My procedure didn't have any complication and I was alert to ask my doc what he found, 2 precancerous polyps. No post procedure recovery time needed. I went home and just ate and told to come back in 3yrs for another scan.

Best Wishes,
Nate.

I had a colonoscopy in Europe (Netherlands), and while they did sedate me I was definitely very conscious and alert through the whole thing. Wasn’t particularly uncomfortable though and makes me think we probably over-anaesthetise a big here (Australia) considering a light general is often used.

Also whilst it’s not a bowel prep, I had a CT this morning and had to drink a litre of oral contrast first. I have an ileostomy. It was only afterward that I thought to point out the futility of this!

I am supposed to have a flex sig on Wednesday to see if the chemo is shrinking my tumor, but they haven't called to tell me that I have to prep in any way. I'm pretty sure that based on how I am feeling that the tumor is indeed shrinking. Fingers crossed.

GI docs often have you do a Fleet Saline enema before a flex sig. You might call them and see if that's what they have in mind.

It's not as invasive as a full-blown prep. It acts quickly though, so don't do it until shortly before your appointment. I did them at home, except for once when I had to do it in the doctor's office. It cleaned me out in about 20 minutes.

Hope you get good news about the tumor shrinking!

Alrighty then

Just reviewing a few "lyrics" I have written over the years and thought a slight rewrite of the classic
"Ring of Fire" would be in order for us here

Burning Ring of Fire

My butt, is a burning thing
and it makes my sphincter sting
fueled by the preppin’ fire
I feel like my BUTT’s on fire...

My butt is a burning ring of fire
I push down, down, down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns, burns, burns
the ring of fire
my butt's on fire.

The prep for scope's complete
I'm parked on the toilet seat
thought at first that it was mild
BUTT Ohhhh my guts went wild..

My butt burn’s causin' my insanity
Calmoseptin didn't work for me
pain went down, down, down
to my lower G-I-T
the ring of fire
my butt's on fire.

The ring of fire.

( by CRguy, with respect and apologies to the great Johnny Cash )

My last night of porcelain freedom is nearing an end ... pun intended
BUTT
Tomorrow is when it'll be my friend

Still looking for a lyric, based on Dusty Springfield's " Wishin' and Hopin' ",
which I had reworked as ... " Preppin' and Scopin' "

Cheers and Harmony preppers and scopers
catch you in the morning

Things went smoothly during my colonoscopy yesterday (Oct. 7th). My cancer had already been detected via PET scan a few weeks ago, so the doctor finding a mass in my ascending colon was no surprise. In fact I had met this GI doctor previously in Liver Transplant clinic. So biopsy, consults to Surgery and Oncology were made. I doctor through the VA and it's nice that I don't have to make calls/appointments myself. Just waiting for the phone to ring...

Preppin' and Scopin' lyrics (from the archives)

Postby Jacques » Wed Oct 09, 2019 1:09 am

  1. Stevie Wonder
...respects to the great Stevie Wonder ... my lyrics for "Higher Ground"
    "Till they're found"

    People keep on preppin'
    doctors keep on scopin'
    homies keep on hopin'
    until the curse is gone

    clubbers keep on sharing
    givers keep on carin'
    friends keep bewarin'
    until the curse is gone

gotta tell the people its never to late
start looking for the polyps that be dealt on your plate
so glad I found 'em and gottem' right out
    gonna keep on tryin'
till every one of them is FOUND
    - CRguy

  2. David Clayton Thomas
AND with apologies to David Clayton Thomas and Blood Sweat and Tears,
please hum the groove of “Spinning Wheel” while reading thru my very own.....

    Scopin' Prep

what goes in, must come out
preppin’ day makes my butt a spout
talkin’ ‘bout the salad that I had last night
gut is rumblin’ loudly and my sphincter’s tight !

    do you mind
    that your own behind
    is a topic of discussion

    think it’s right
    that by squeezing tight
    you’ll avoid that repercussion?

what goes in, must come out
so you sit at home to crap and pout
    talkin’ bout a scopin’
    and you know one thing

    clean out all your insides
and you just might WIN !
    - CRguy

what goes In must come OUT
sometimes you feel like your butt's a spout !
sitting on the toilet is a preppin' thing
    ride the porcelain altar
    till the scope goes IN

do you mind that your own behind
is a cleaned out scoping' highway
    doc says prep
so you do your best to clean the rest
and show him….. a colon .... that is clear !
    - CRguy

  3. Dusty Springfield
( and preppin' and scopin'...say isn't that an old Dusty Springfield song ( " Preppin' and Scopin' " ? )
    " Preppin' and Scopin' "

    wishin' and hopin'
    and preppin' and scopin'

scannin' and plannin', our jitters away
    won't let anxiexty stay.....

  4. John and Yoko
You might well enjoy Christmas without worry, and that is my Christmas wish for you.
    and SO this is ChristmASS
    and what have we done
    just preppin' and scopin'
    to check UP your bum.

    SO very merry prepping
and we hope you scope well
    we don't need no others
    to live in our hell.

    and a very merry scoping
    for YOUNG and for old
if YOU think there's a problem
    FORGET what you're told

    BECAUSE this is YOUR life
    and nobody else
    YOU gotta take brave steps
    and look after yourself......

    cancer's ......over
    If we .........want it
    cancer's .......over ......NOW !
