Cancer households should not have to deal with lice

Postby ginabeewell » Wed Sep 11, 2019 10:53 pm

I feel very, very strongly about this.

I cannot understand why the lice bugs are not aligned.

It really, really, really does not seem fair. DON'T WE HAVE ENOUGH HAIR PROBLEMS???

This is all.

OH!!!! I feel you! In the midst of my husbands chemo/radiation I had to deal with both my daughters having lice ( who both have very long hair!!!) and then I had it too!!!! ugh. I took a looooong time to get rid of it too. I hope it's better for you and may all your people have short hair :)

Ugh. I feel you. my oldest caught lice on the bus. The kids sit 3 across (which seems insane for junior high kids!) and their heads are so close. It was my first experience with lice on my kids. I was tempted to shave everyones heads that day. I didn't go nuts though with the cleaning, as I have read that you really don't need to. His bedding got a good cleaning and pillow got tossed in the dryer on high heat for an hour. Luckily no one else in the family got it.

My head is itching just thinking about it.

We've never had to deal with lice but I've certainly read about them.

I'd guess that lice wouldn't touch someone on Chemo.

Totally not fun. My daughter got them when she was in theater camp where the kids shared wigs.

Gina everyday throw pillows, cases, sheets, blankets in the dryer on high heat for an hour if you don't want to run up a big water bill. My daughter caught lice from my sisters kids and I lice combed in and out of the tub I bought a static comb to zap anything the sensors came in contact with and a comb that vacuums the hair. Blow dry everytine you wash.... There's more I'm sure but back to work.

You would think that, wouldn't you? Unfortunately Google revealed otherwise. So far, I seem to not have contracted anything, but I have four kids in the house and everyone uses our hairbrushes / lounges in our bed / etc. And honestly treating the household is as bad as anything else.

We literally just went through this with three of them - 50% of our household - and thought after three Cetaphil treatments each, we had wiped them out. Then the oldest girl found lice in her hair again last night, and my husband spent two hours combing it out, treating her, etc, etc, etc.

This morning her brother told us he used her brush, because he couldn't find his own. WHAT are you thinking you KNOW SHE HAS LICE???

The girls don't like being blow dried, but maybe this would encourage them to give in for a few weeks...

Yikes! I can't imagine. Sounds like you are doing everything to get them gone. I was trying to remember what I heard to keep them from coming back but it's been a while since I read about it. I think I read to put the girls' hair up in a pony tail and spritz with tea tree oil. I used to read everything I could find about it when it was going around the school but they didn't bring them home so I never needed the tips I found.

Good luck, hope they are gone soon!

I'd be tempted to burn everything to the ground. I'm pretty pissy for some unknown reason and I'm about to go angry clean under my couch.

I can at least be thankful I'm not dealing with bugs. I'm so sorry that you are!

You’re pissy - maybe because you just had surgery?!

Taking a card from my therapist: be gentle with yourself. Your body is using a lot of energy to repair your organs.

I don’t think you are on steroids now, but I will say that going on (and off) them really made me want to go crazy on people sometimes.

I cleaned... and baked cookies. There's some law somewhere that says it's impossible to be pissy when cookies are involved.

We all had a crummy day here. Part of it has to be that it's almost mid September and it's still 95F outside with no relief in the forecast. The heat is going to be encroaching on pumpkin spice and sweatshirt season soon!!

It's okay though, I'm happy I'm alive to have a less than perfect day. Totally better than the alternative!

Hated dealing with lice . I was half way through transferring a patient once when I noticed considerable movement on her hair . Nearly dropped her.

I got a solution for the heat Amy !! Scotland :D
You could come and join us for a bit . A little wet but not to warm, not too cold yet .

Have a good day ,

A good tea tree oil shampoo is supposed to repel them so does mint. Gina I promise I've tried it all, I was mortified by the stigma of it at first which led me to buying anything and everything to see what worked best and I really recommend the vac comb and high heat drying daily.
