2 spots on liver, 7 months after chemo success

Postby Kbelo » Mon Aug 26, 2019 5:28 pm

I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and can maybe talk me down from assuming the worst.

I had a tumor successfully removed via resection of sigmoid colon in May 2018. Clear margins. One of 28 removed lymph nodes had traces of cancer cells do I underwent 6 months of FOLFIRINOX (FOLFOX + Irenotecan). I'm part of a clinical trial so I'm getting CT scans every 3 months. My May scan was clear, however the one I did 2 weeks ago showed 2 small spots on my liver that my oncologist wants a better look at. MRI booked for Friday, but I don't get results until I see him on Sept 11. My CEA is at 1.3 which is pretty good for me. I'm trying not to worry, my oncologist says it could be nothing of concern, but it's hard not to be concerned that it's not liver mets. I guess my question is, has anyone had a scan with suspicious "spots" that turn out to be non cancerous? Mentally I'm gearing up for another fight, but also praying it could be ok (not cancer again)

Thanks all

I'd be just as annoyed and scared. Good luck; the low CEA #'s and recent chemo make me hopeful that you'll be good.

I have no experience as I'm just starting out but wanted to let you know I'm here & rooting for you. I have read a post before saying they had a spot on their liver that they have been watching & it hasn't changed in months. I'm sorry I don't know more about it but your CEA isn't high so that's in your favor. We do worry a lot with this disease. So much. Hopefully someone with more insight has more info. Hang in there.

I’ve seen a lot of stories on her where spots are found and turn out to be nothing of concern! I’ll be praying that’s the case for you!

I have a 2mm “hypodensity” on my liver that the CT said was too small to classify, so I had an MRI and it’s just a cyst. Actually there are 3 of them that the MRI picked up.

I also have a cyst on my right kidney. None are concerning to my doctors.

Apparently it’s very common.

I hope you have good news.

My initial scan showed a spot on my liver and an MRI confirmed it was a cyst.

Your doctor will get your results before your appointment so I’m hoping he will call you especially if it’s good news. My doctor phoned me as soon as he got the results which was either the same day or the next day. Perhaps you could ask for a phone call. Waiting and not knowing sucks.

Hope yours turns out to be a cyst also. Try not to worry in the meantime.

Thanks everyone for replying and giving me some hope that there are other plausible explanations. It will help make these next couple of weeks without answers a little less scary

I spoke to a former manager - lifelong smoker and he had spots on his lungs. His doctors said that they'd watch them and they didn't grow - so no need to worry. Stuff can happen and it doesn't necessarily mean that it's cancer.

Quick update. I met with my oncologist this week who confirmed that the 2 liver spots are small cysts. I am so relieved!!

Congratulations on the good news.

I had my 6 month scan a couple of days ago. Don’t see the onc for two weeks. My turn to sweat.
