Unrelenting fatigue...help!

Postby FightCRC » Fri Jul 26, 2019 12:39 am

My wife has been battling Stage IV since May 2018. 22 rounds of chemo (FOLFOX, FOLFIRI), two major surgeries, and gearing up for a third. Since her PVE earlier this month, she has been hit with her strongest bout with fatigue yet, and it's just getting worse. She's spending most of her time in bed. She doesn't even have the energy to watch TV. We are due back for surgery this coming week, which will necessitate a trip to NYC from CA. Not even sure how we're going to make it. She has been eating very little, zero appetite. We've been getting fluids at our local hospital every day for the past week, and that's helped some, but not enough. Any tips on how we can deal with this fatigue and help her get over this hump would be most appreciated.

I experienced fatigue also after PVE, although not near that bad, but it was different than the chemo fatigue. One thing I noticed that made it much worse was Altitude. I took a trip north went from elevation 1100 to 7000 and I could hardly breath or even walk, took a couple hours to acclimate. Maybe travel to a lower elevation for a day or so? Or maybe just some oxygen, has her Doc checked her oxygen level?

Also try to take in alot of protein and vitamin D, boost or even milk works good.

For me, my worst fatigue was when I was not eating; so I would try to attack her appetite first. A marijuana mint goes a long way toward my eating enough to have energy. I have to imagine that if she isn’t eating at all, that’s going to be almost impossible to work with.

She has to get something in her stomach! During my last chemo treatment, the thought of eating anything was disgusting. I forced 3-4 Ensure shakes down my throat each day for a few days. I was so fatigued and I knew I needed the calories. Those shakes are like 350 calories apiece, so if she can down a few of them, then those are enough calories for the day

I was tired during chemo but a look at my bloodwork easily explained why.

If you're resorting to IV fluids, then it sounds like that trip isn't a great idea unless you can do them yourself.
