Any suggestions on what I should be eating? I assume my appetite will return once the drugs are out of my system.

Protein - and lots of it! That's what your body needs to get strong for surgery and to heal afterwards. It can be protein shakes if you can't stomach the thought of too much food yet.

And remember to hydrate. Electrolytes - either in bottled water (like SmartWater) or added via Nuun tabs to regular water - made a huge difference in how I handled both chemo and surgery.

I was only off chemo for 9 days prior to my first surgery (removal of primary tumor + liver resection + ileostomy + HAI pump implant), but I could feel my energy and strength come back even for those few days off!

My incision was right down the middle. But maybe because they needed to leave some real estate on the right for my takedown.
Either way, you can treat yourself to a new tattoo after you finish treatment.

As others have said, protein! Good quality red meats (eg lamb, beef, liver) to get haemoglobin counts up; making green veggie drinks is a great way to help your liver and get lots of nutrients (particularly folate); yoghurt/kefir to help your gut recover from the chemo. Lots of water to give your kidneys a break.

After surgery you will probably find eating big meals more difficult, so small amounts more frequently is the go. Drinks are good too - smoothies, yoghurts, Sustagen, etc. I read it can take up to 700 extra calories per day to regenerate liver, so your body will be needing the extra energy!

If they are removing your gall bladder then you might find high fat foods (fried foods, cheeses, etc.) a bit harder to digest for a while.

Best of luck!

You’ll have a few days presurgery to eat well and healthfully - but I am now 7 days out and was barely managing a bite or two of food at each meal - let alone the “right food.”

I finally took a marijuana mint this morning and ate a big breakfast including some healthy things. I think you have to anticipate you won’t feel 100% and your appetite might be more impacted by surgery than even chemo.
